I think we have lost the edge to win close matches or be competitive to play for 4 quarters without him as coach.
Tonight will be a big test to see if we are switched on.
I think Bomber's experimental attitude has rubbed off on the players. We need to show improvement on last year. Hird had the team gradually building, but I just wonder if Bomber's changing too much.

Haven't really thought about this, but despite the woeful effort last night, I've had another look at what could transpire for the year and we still may end up 5th or 6th come seasons end. If Hirdy is back in the coaches box and allowed on the ground etc in the first final, this might just be the X-factor, the big F-off to the whole competition that could see the side rise to the next level. Often a bit of emotion on the eve of a final get do interesting things. Sheeds was always a big fan of that, and would be desparte to stir the emotions up with the team during a finals campaign.
Reckon it might create 'interesting things'....just gotta get there first.

After coaching, Hird has the right qualifications to become an AFL Commissioner.
A similar outcome could have occured under Hird this season. Thompson has bucket loads of experience and enthusiasm and no coach can magically influence a game as much as the players influence, coaches simply guide, organise and give advice with a lot of encouragement.
The problem is the entirety of the best 22 players simply need to to stand up more and take responsibility to control passages of play.
We actually have a decent team of players. But need a more fluent and cohesive forward line, the team also needs another hard at the ball midfielder and outside runner.
Fact is, the game has become more and more complex. It probably needs to be split into two divisions, considering the dominance of geelong and hawthorn.
I would much rather watch free flowing games with less contests or pauses. I really enjoyed the 90s to early 2000s style of play over this rugby style.

Hopefully we are still in the hunt for finals come end of year as I think the return of Hird will make the player have a spring in their step!
