James Hird — January 2017 onwards (Part 1)

Don't u/stand people getting all angsty about naming who this wife of a Judge woman is.

If anyone knows for sure, or just has a fair idea, what’s the problem with posting your info, or idea?

Why would anyone worry about protecting her, or speculating on who she is?

It’s fking good enough for every other clown on the web or in the media to cast aspersions far & wide with zero evidence, but we here get our panties in a twist over stating a fact?

Over naming & shaming this twisted harpie, who clearly needs a good dressing down herself, and put to shame for her holier than thou public rant?

If you know who it was, just say so. WTF?

I can’t agree more!

Me too / ridiculing Hirdy at a party means she’s quite happy for the world to know who she is and what a low life she is.

Let’s name her, put a picture up of her and fully encourage fans to publicly berate her when she’s at a game.

I don't often agree with BSD but on this he is correct - name the judges wife.

She needs to be named and shamed.

Linda Marion Dessau AM (born 8 May 1953)[1] has been the Governor of Victoria since 1 July 2015.[2] She is the first female and first Jewish holder of the office. She was formerly a judge of the Family Court of Australia from 1995 to 2013.[3]

Dessau was appointed to the AFL Commission in November 2007.[4] A supporter of the Essendon Football Club, Dessau started and was the inaugural chair of the Essendon Women’s Network in 1997, which for more than a decade has claimed a strong hold in the grand final week calendar.[5]

She was appointed to the board of the Melbourne Festival, of which she became President in 2014.[6]

Family background[edit]
Her father, John Dessau, arrived in Melbourne from Poland in 1929. At first he took on factory work, but later he became a businessman. He married Sybil, who was born in Melbourne, and they had four children, of whom Linda was the youngest.[7]

Personal life[edit]
Dessau was born in Melbourne, and was educated at St Catherine’s School, Toorak, matriculating at the age of sixteen. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1973 as its youngest law graduate. She worked as a solicitor from 1974 to 1978, and as a barrister from 1979 to 1995, specialising in family law and commercial litigation.

She is one of five Jewish people to have served in a viceregal capacity in Australia, after Queensland governor Sir Matthew Nathan, New South Wales governor Gordon Samuels and governors-general Sir Isaac Isaacs and Sir Zelman Cowen.[8]

Since 1982, Dessau has been married to Tony Howard, a judge of the County Court of Victoria.

Clear enough?

I believe there are at least six other Judges who are prominent in their Essendon Membership.

I can get no-one to corroborate who the person was, and if it actually did happen as per the media. So be careful in who you defame.

Lol. This is Blitz. On one hand scream and carry on about people condemning without knowing the facts, and then happily run off and do the same thing.

All of this groundless speculation about Hird is a disgrace. Now who do you reckon that wife of a judge is?

Can we be 100% sure it actually is Dessau before we rush out and grab the pitch forks, please?

It can’t be that hard… It was in public. There have been posts on here by people who seem to have known about it - If it isn’t Dessau they just need to say “not her”. If anyone knows they can say… “it was … (allegedly)” or “a source close to someone who attended the party told me it was…” Two common ways for the media to get their message across!
I would love to know who it was so that my feelings of disrespect and dislike can be aimed at the right person… Why the ■■■■ should she be protected?

Does the last 4 years mean nothing?

The three Hird sons now play soccer. :(

That is tragic.

Thats the worst part of the whole thing…

Who cares.

I do.

Like everyone, I love our club and hirdy and I could think of nothing better than have one of his boys build on the great Hird legacy at the EFC.

If the Hird family are truely lost to football then it is absolutely a tragedy and it makes me feel sick to my stomach.

It also makes more determined to see that karma comes to those corrupt officials who made this great man a scapegoat.

Get a grip.

Plenty of former stars had kids that never played the game.

In that vein you should just as outraged Essendon haven’t put a women’s team together - They’re just not giving Stephanie the chance to play for the club her father did.

The last 4 years have meant a ■■■■■■■ lot! Why should the person who publicly humiliated James Hird be not named?

Keep thinking of Dean Bailey. The “face” of the Melbourne Tanking saga.

Makes me feel all kinds of horrible thinking about how far the AFL will go to protect their brand. Fitzpatrick is evil.

Haha. Possibly. Hird’s a ManUtd fan if that means anything. So chances are the boys are as well. Urgh.

AN OUTSPOKEN advocate of James Hird says the former Essendon coach was devastated after being publicly savaged at a Christmas drinks function a few weeks ago.

According to The Herald Sun, Hird was berated by an Essendon supporter and the wife of a prominent judge in front of stunned guests at a private party last month.

Former cricketer and outspoken Hird advocate Bruce Francis tweeted that one woman “gave James both barrels over what she thought happened at Essendon”.

Well they may not have listened to him, but they may be starting to hear him. (hoping it gets louder and louder).

(the rest of the article is just same stuff that’s been printed elsewhere)

.

Can we be 100% sure it actually is Dessau before we rush out and grab the pitch forks, please?

You’d think the decorum of the position of Governor would mean such a public outburst would be unlikely.
I’d be putting my money elsewhere.

So now it’s ok for the media to start quoting Bruce Francis is it? Just when the narrative suits it seems.

James Hird’s health: Enough is enough, ok?

In the midst of all the sadness surrounding the latest sorry twist in the James Hird saga, it was hard not to be enraged that his wife, Tania, was forced to say this in a public statement Friday afternoon: “At this time James and the Hird family are in need of privacy … we particularly ask this of the media contingent currently gathered at our house.”

It beggars belief that news directors of any persuasion – TV, radio, print or digital – would dispatch crews to the Hird family home while the former AFL champion was hospitalised, dealing with a medical issue that is the business of he and his family and no-one else.

I say this as someone who has dispatched countless reporters and photographers to all sorts of addresses and locations, often uninvited, over many years. And I say this as someone who was asked to perform too many “intrusions on grief” as a newspaper reporter.

In such situations the intrusion can only be justified because the issue is of overwhelming public interest and then only if the reportage can’t be obtained elsewhere. But what might interest the public is not necessarily in the public interest.

Which is to say, while the public might be curious about the Hird family’s latest travails, the public interest is not served by catering to that curiosity. In fact, we do a disservice by allowing such breaches of privacy.

Any trained journalist would know this, so the decision of newsrooms across Melbourne to dispatch staff to the Hird home Thursday afternoon and beyond was cruel headline-hunting, nothing more, nothing less.

Channel Seven was one of the networks that used footage of the Hird home in their reports. It showed windows shuttered and a front portico deserted; the house could be clearly identified by anyone wishing to cruise by and take a look themselves. I can’t begin to think what the family inside might have been thinking as the media hordes descended. So much for privacy. So much for decency. Will this never end?

Ironically, one of Seven’s directors, Jeff Kennett, on Friday also called for Hird’s privacy to be respected. He was speaking as chairman of the depression support service Beyondblue. Perhaps he should have a word to his network’s director of news.

Peter Costello might have a word to Nine news personnel too. Now chairman of the network, he once called me when I was editing the Herald Sun to ask that I pull back one of my photographers who was camped outside his house on the picture editor’s orders in the hope of snapping the then Federal Treasurer as he stepped outside. It was an invasion of privacy, he argued, and I could only agree.

That newsrooms routinely invade the Hirds’ privacy shouldn’t surprise. Large chunks of the media haven’t given Hird or his family a fair shake in the four years since news of an investigation into Essendon’s supplements regime broke in February, 2013.

Within days of the press conference announcing that Essendon had self-reported to the AFL and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), much of the football press had convicted the club and fingered Hird as the fall guy. That he preferred to stay and fight only irked them – and AFL headquarters – even more.

Throughout the saga, which has produced very few agreed facts, I’ve been stunned by how emphatic Hird’s staunchest critics have been. Do they have access to material the rest of us aren’t privy to?

While there are those who won’t be satisfied with anything less than a public execution, most fair-minded people would feel Hird has paid a sufficient price for his mis-judgements and is now entitled to rebuild his life, not as a Brownlow Medallist or a premiership captain but as a husband and father and businessman. He’s earned the right to heal as a private citizen.

Two weeks after that fateful 2013 press conference announcing Essendon’s self-report, I bumped into Hird at a sports event in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. I’d employed him as a football columnist 20 years earlier when I was editing The Sunday Age. He always struck me as smart, engaging and thoughtful.

The pressure was already building on the Essendon coach on that February day but the worst of the ASADA investigation was still months away. We agreed to have lunch, “once this is all over”.

Suffice to say, we are yet to catch up. And I fear we never will, because too many people will never let it be over. But surely it’s time to at least get off his lawn.

Because it’s a sideshow. Because there’s a lot of people at AFL House and at the corner of Spencer and collins who’d LOVE EFC fans to hunt this woman down, especially if we got it wrong and accuse the wrong person and they can run with a sob story about how she got persecuted by EEEVIL delusional and probably sexist Cult of Hird members. If they can get people talking about her rather than the YEARS of circumstances that led to this point, they’ll be rapt.

Whoever this person is, she probably got her information from the AFL accredited media and from their AFL puppeteers. Focus the blame where it belongs - with the evil ■■■■■ at AFL, Fairfax, and SEN - not on some ill-informed numpty who got half-cut on red at a christmas party and acted like a tool.

You can’t see through your anger and hatred and what you are after is the result of a person being publicly shamed, regardless of how it happens, is all I’m saying.

Hopefully the club investigates this and find out who it is and terminate their club membership…we don’t need fools like this…especially if they are high up in the chain of influence within the club.
