Seriously, it was very clear from what Jim said today that he made the final call based on the belief it would give the club 'space' to get on with the business of winning games.
Get over it.
We knew this was coming.
No surprise.
Time to move on
You can move on. Off you go.
If you are happy with a board that is weak, contributed to the saga and never took responsibility, beholden to the AFL, then that’s your perogative…
But guess what, we don’t have to agree, we don’t have to move n, we don’t have to accept what the board has done.
We can complain about it and we can do whatever we like about. I would suggest if you are happy to move on, you are in the wrong thread.
Was going to say the same thing. Thanks for saving me the time. No way this was ‘his’ decision.
Very class & dignified exit by Hird. Will enhance his status as a club legend in my view.
From his own words, Hird felt that the players couldn’t be given the space they needed to just play… a point he reiterated many times in answering questions.
He posed the question to the CEO that, if he was gone, the players would be better off? The CEO to it that question to the Chairman and the Chairman took it to the Board. It was a unanimous decision. Tells me Hird himself felt he had the diminishing point of returns if he stayed as coach and did the right thing by sounding his management if they felt the same. In the end, it was mutual consent. The club handled this far, far better than the Sheedy & knights situations.
Will the “AFL Industry” now finally give the players the space they deserve & need to just play football?
Let’s wait and see.
For Hird to approach the situation as he did and conduct himself the way that he did speaks volumes to the integrity of he as a person. It is of the highest order.
My concern is what happens to the players when a new coach comes in who doesn’t know the situation other than what they have read in the media?
Will the players EVER truly believe the coach ‘knows’ they are innocent. Or will the new coach pull the ‘past is in the past and I don’t care’ speech which is a cop out.
I just don’t see how this helps the players to lose their biggest, most vocal, supporter through this whole mess.
Board divided, supporters divided, players divided and we haven’t even got the appeal results. This leaves one almighty mess. So Paul Little wants to stay until after the appeal to transition ‘properly’ but Hird has to go this week?! Ya… seems real fair. So what paul, you needed another 6 months to screw the players over again at CAS? What deal will you bend over and take this time? more sanctions… how about you get them 6 year bans and then tell us you had no options…
Hirdy was all class right to the finish...even as the media maggots tried to drag one last headline out of him.
And to all of you who are angry/disappointed and talking about not renewing your memberships…take a deep breath and ask yourselves…is that what Hirdy would want you to do?
It’s not a bout that. It’s about whether or not I am prepared to support this board. I have had concerns about the board for years, thought with new blood and two new appointments it might have improved. Don’t think it has. And certainly don’t like Littles boy Campbell.
those two that got voted in fkg used this place
i bet the rest of the board saw their appointment and thought ‘how???’
The board made a decision and chose to pull the pin. I don't see an issue with that. But now I hope some of those said board members have the good sense to walk out the door as well.
I am kind of relieved for Hird and his family, he can have some quiet family time and get out of the spotlight.
This.
The continual them and message Hird was pushing was also important.
It’s all about the players. They need some space to perform. He wants the club to be successful and for supporters to continue turning up to games and enjoying the game again.
I hate it has occurred in this way and would have liked him to go out after completing the year, but the decision he made and the questions he asked of the board were very important and needed to be answered to give the players the best chance to get some clear fresh air and allow them to get the best out of themselves.
Did you watch 'til the end?
Yep.
I did.
The last question was terrible and will be the focus of every conspiracy theorist.
Did you not hear the five or six times he said he was doing it for the players and so that the club can move on?
And you believe Hird resigned because of our onfield performance this year?
Serious question.

I think you'll find that every player will be allowed to leave the club and be given the opportunity to get to the team of their choice by trade if need be.
The atmosphere at our club has been ■■■■■■ tough to work with. The club was holding it together, but it still wasn't at a standard to give the players the chance to get the best out of themselves.
Any ounce of respect I had for Little (not a lot) and Campbell (some) is out the door, and on my backyard fire pit. I’m just getting the petrol.
God bless you James. You’ve finally been ‘assassinated’ by the Football Gestapo.
The only positive is right now, this is the lowest point of this club in its history, and I honestly can’t see things getting any worse.
Serious question - could we see Hirdy back at the club in a few years?? I bl00dy hope so - as a developmental coach or something along those lines. Too good to be lost to the club forever.

No.
It was very clear he did not resign due to the performance of the team.
It is solely to give the players the best chance to get the best out of themselves. If that didn’t come across to anyone, then I must have been listening to the wrong press conference.
