Wanganeen?

And what I heard when they started to tag him heavily Ć  la JJ, his teammates used to sing ā€œhey you, get offa McLeodā€

You mean the guy that everyone says has one foot? Who copped heaps when he played for us?

Yep.

Theyā€™re very good players. But if theyā€™re elite, what does that make the Dangerfield, Careys & Abletts?
Elite elite, as Wim says?

Is JJ one of the best in the league in his position? Yes he is. So why shouldnā€™t he be labelled elite?

Because heā€™s not?

Carey and Ablett are three of the best five players Iā€™ve ever seen. So yes, whatever hyperbolic name you can come up with, theyā€™re it.

Then thereā€™s elite, the best {small percentage} in the comp - thatā€™s Dangerfield and Fyfe and in past years, Reiwoldt and Buckley.

I think itā€™s fine to say thereā€™s elite rebounding backs, which would be Shaw and Murphy and Enright. I think thatā€™s enough of a thing to be a thing. Itā€™s not like thereā€™s a team out there who doesnā€™t have guys trying to be good at that role.
Itā€™s when people try to split it down to ā€œone of the elite brown-haired left footed rebounding backs in a prime numbered jumperā€ that you start to think they should really use another word.

Iā€™m happy with recognition of ā€˜eliteā€™ from any of the 8 or 9 standard roles on a footy team. Itā€™s a team game, after all; being better than anyone at what you do still makes you very valuable, even if thereā€™s people who are better at what they do.

Picking schoolyard style, heā€™d be the 3rd Bulldogs halfback I would pick.

We still have to trade for him donā€™t we??

Hope he plays like caca til the end of the season and we throw our 2nd round pick at them like they did with Crameri.

And I agree.
My point was exactly that, actually. Players specialise. If they are elite in their specialty, they are elite (in my book) because thatā€™s their job. Some players like the ones mentioned (though Iā€™m starting to include Dangerfield in there) happen to be ā€˜eliteā€™ at everything.
Which leads to another point I was trying to make. If a player can be elite, because they are one of the best in a specific area, is it fair a player be labeled crap when they are not that great at one specific area? The terms ā€˜spudā€™, ā€˜truckā€™ and ā€˜squibā€™ come to mind.

You can be good and a squib.
Spud / truck means no good. Thrown around too often maybe but weā€™re not here for veracity

Who did he barrack for as a Kid?

Supppsedly did a dodgy with a team mates ex (wasnt at the time)ā€¦ not sure If I would like that at our club.

He and Jake Stringer and Jakeā€™s misses are best friends. Jake and his misses broke up and JJ is still close friends with her. Someone started a rumour that JJ did the deed with Jakeā€™s wife.

I doubt it is even remotely true just your garden variety internet rumour.

Midfield first, Get best available because we should have cap space if the list manager is ruthless. 2000 is to long ago

He just needs a sensible hairstyle.
