Joe Rogan

lmao i love people who think that being anti-trump means pro-biden

where does “they’re all war criminals” fit in that scope?

-edit- on topic, my feelings on joe’s podcast is “3 hour episodes? fk outta here”

He just has a podcast where he talks to an incredible range of people, about different subjects that are of interest to him. The only way you can make your decision on him, is if you watch one of his episodes.

You might enjoy it. You might hate it.

the only reason harmful ideas are dangerous is because by and large, people are too stupid to conduct proper critical analysis on other people’s ideas and opinions and instead supplant their own in lieu of actually thinking about stuff

which is an indictment on the education systems and society in general - people are ■■■■■■■ stupid

I’d take issue with the use of "totally* in that sentence.

It’s different, but it’s all on the same spectrum. Doctors generally aren’t biomedical research scientists. What is driving those specific Doctors to “explore” the use of invermectin off label and outside of the typical biomedical research frameworks? It’s coming from the same general principals as Pete Evans.

I disagree.

The fact he had someone on there who corrected him is good.

The fact he has long form conversations is good.

The fact he will have pro gun types listen to different perspectives on more liberal social progressive ideas is good for balance. Same as having people who believe in vaccinations listening to why others might not share the same view. It can help people understand each other.

He is a far more authentic and trustworthy source of information than mainstream media because generally, and I say generally, he isn’t that invested in presenting an angle or snappy headline grabs.

He is usually inquisitive.

Banning or restricting the information he can share is what China or Russia would do. It seems to be a calling card for left leaning people who like to monitor speech to ensure it is “acceptable”. Things that are problematic are best let out of the bag, not hidden.

If AOC can go from bartending to politics, Joe Rogan can go from commentating to podcasting.

I’ve never listened to him (or all but a handful of podcasts), so my thoughts are pretty generalist.

  • Having a long-form platform is good given how few there are.
  • Having a platform for a wide variety of views is good.
  • Not challenging views which are out there, misinformation or prejudiced views is bad. No idea if he challenges or not (or sufficiently).
  • Equal time, let alone less time, is bad. Giving one session to a climate change denier and one session to a climate change supporter, is not representative of the issue when the weight of scientific info is on change. Equal air-time is not responsible. Again, no idea what he’s doing.

So on Covid, if he’s giving an unchallenged platform to fringe views and/or not giving a lot more time to those who support the science, then he absolutely is making a deliberate choice. If he’s giving loony views equal time and/or unchallenged, then he’s responsible for his actions.

It’s actually more than that IMO.

A fraction of a percentage of humans in history were smart enough to invent electricity, flight, bricks, democracy etc.

The rest just reap the rewards.

Humans are not that clever by default, and in a complex world where constant misinformation is thrown at them, many just don’t have the capacity to make sense of it. Additionally we are emotional beings.

So the bit I agree with is people are ■■■■■■■ stupid. But that goes for all of us, I include myself in that as well. Our brains are not designed to be able to successfully navigate all the information and stimulus it is asked to handle.

it is perfectly possible to teach critical analysis skills to children, but for whatever reason we don’t

you literally do not need to be intelligent to be taught that statements backed up by data and evidence should carry more weight than those that don’t - but, that in itself doesn’t make them automatically true

Yeah she didn’t graduate top of her class in politics / international relations.

Modern conservatives, so weirdly obsessed with AOC, Greta and Grace Tame.

These young women are terrifying

Modern liberals, so weirdly obsessed with Joe Rogan.

It is perfectly possible, for a portion of the population.

I do agree that Schooling systems teach too much content and not enough capability.

But your also talking about a species that believes in dozens of different sky wizards, cosmic energies and all sorts. That’s because humans are emotional creatures as well.

I’m a conservative, I’m just not the anti-science / anti-logic variety.

things like this likely wouldn’t exist if people were taught that they should care about whether or not what they believe is true

but then again, my science degree has probably coloured my opinion on the topic

■■■■■■■ hell man. This is blitz. You are really living on the edge….

What am I supposed to do with that meaningless throwaway sentence?

Bit of a humble brag.

My giant donga nearly got in the way of me typing this.

Disagree.

Humans have a desire to make sense of their world. Many will find purpose and sense in religion, conspiracy thinking or even blitz :joy:.

It’s all the same. People tell themselves stories to understand the world.

Unfortunately, just trying to be good to people, good to your family and being buried in the dirt after you die is not enough for many people. So that’s where sky wizards come in. So when all the horrible ■■■■ is happening in Africa the human brain can rationalise it.

We absolutely and certainly do. In primary school. From a very young age. But of course that gets turned into “liberals are taking over our schools” in the media.

The three hours is actually what makes it work.

Anybody can hold a facade or stick to their own talking points in a 15 min interview. Some can even last an hour.

But after three hours, with alcohol flowing and joints being rolled, people can’t hide who they really are.

Quite a few have been found out because of it. (Not enough have, but still.)

This is one of my favorite clips. This absolute phony got showed up so bad, he almost starts crying.
