You can’t sign a waiver that excludes your statutory right to seek compensation - I’m not sure on the framework other sports have for accommodating concussion related injuries, but a lot of it relates to prevention, support and awareness and the reality is that for a long time, the AFL specifically just hasn’t given a ■■■■ about it
Something has to happen because the over correction the other way with suspending guys for perfectly fine tackles is ridiculous
Yeah they’re going way too far in being reactive to individual incidents so they can say “hey look we’re taking this super seriously we swear!”
It’s the lazy and short sighted solution that probably won’t do anything to address their liability in court. They need to actually put effort into building a framework to support players, but with the boiz club running the show that will never happen
AFL are onto it. GC and Carlton will be trialling these suites this weekend.
Sportspeople aren’t covered by workers compensation in Australia except for Northern Territory.
The AFL, Clubs and players would have other insurances in place to cover loss of income and medical expenses.
Insurance companies can alter who is covered and what is covered for their insurance policies. So they can exclude concussion for an AFL player just like they can exclude flood damage for house insurance.
*I’m currently writing a brief on this for a Minister as the question came up in Parliament this morning.
Running to be a Councillor in Moonee Valley.
Won!
Was running for the Buckley Ward too. Also the incumbent in the Steele Creek ward (my ward) got rolled too.
Fixed.
With the State Government forcing (almost) all Councils to go to single-member wards, six Moonee Valley Councillors decided to run for three seats… so a total of four got rolled.
None of those named in IBAC’s Essendon Royals report remain (one resigned prior to the report, and two have been voted out).
