Kanga Kanga Kanga - review thread R22 2023

It will go largely unnoticed or be swept aside in considering his first half, but what he did in the last quarter was huge for us. The pressure acts such as the smothers set the tome for the end game and locked the ball into our forward half. The smother on Ziebel from the kick in was particularly well done, first one of those l have seen.

Clearly I need some sarcastica font.

Yeah , reminds me of Lloyd s as well. Also reminds me a little off Dunstall in that he just times his leads so well. Makes forward craft look easy. Lead out 30m mark, kick goal.

I haven’t been able to get to a live game this year, do we have someone down back marshalling the troops like Hodge did for the hawks/lions? Helping us to maintain structure, our issues with stopping transition would suggest no…it’s just something you can only see when you are at the game live

Shoutout to Ziebell, his ball use kept us in it then won us the game. 1 vote

Wouldn’t stopping transition come from your leaders at half forward and mids? I think for the most part our back 6 structure up ok to defend but they would be frustrated with the ease of ball coming down

Make no mistake, every single year it’s the Essendon game(s) that they prioritise. We ARE their grand final. Throw in the fact that they opted to make this Cunningtons fairwell and you get another reason for them to be up and about. And then there’s Clarkson, who just straight up hates us. A reciprocated feeling at my end, fwiw. They were also very good for a half against Melbourne. Warning bells would , should, were ringing loudly for some of us.

Then throw in the fact that our centre square at times comprised Bryan, Hobbs, Tsatas and Perkins. Which is the transition many have been wanting / demanding but comes with attached compromises.

We aren’t playing overly well, but nonetheless this was a pleasing win. You have to learn to win the close games. We’ve done that the last two weeks.

And I’d hazard a guess that over the last decade or more we’ve probably lost terrible games to the bottom two sides every year. This season , they’ve had four cracks at us. We managed to not lose any of them.

Like last week, Sunday is so much more pleasant after a close win than a close loss. For an incredibly young side , some of you need to enjoy the friggin roses for once.

Maybe it’s coz they have the same frame but Baldwin could be a Jeremy McGovern type interceptor.

But with a better kick

I think it was in the third, when the game was in the balance, that I looked up and saw this combo. Definitely an insight to what Scott means in terms of long term over short.

You’re new here aren’t you?

Tippa = tackling and forward pressure coach.

He helped us out in out last game as well IIRC.

Don’t like North at all but nice touch by Brad Scott to say goodbye/congratulations to Cunnington in their race after the game.

Kane Cornes won’t like that one bit. Particularly the smiles on the kids.

There was one play near the end when the game was on the line where he cost us a goal by pulling out of a contest. He should be dropped for that alone.

Besides the standalone Good Friday fixture this year (Vs Carlton), yesterday was comfortably their biggest ‘home’ game crowd of the year - 37,000.

Looked about 60-70% our way on the telecast.

Was about 50/50 at the game I reckon.

Na, top deck was all red and black.

Completely agree.

Scott gave Weideman 8 games without a goal - to prove to Weideman that he is not good enough as an AFL KP forward. Now, he is in the VFL learning to be a KP defender.

With Kelly, I feel Scott is 50/50 on his value to the team. Both Laverde and Heppell are better players in better form as defenders and you can’ play all three in defence - too slow.

So, he has been tried now as both a wingman and defensive forward - my view is he has been underwhelming in both roles. Just too slow to make a decision and execute it with ball in hand.

If Stringer gets up for next week, I expect it will be Kelly he replaces.
