Was definitely an Essendon advantage in the crowed, even commentators made note of it.
They turned up tho, as you’d expect a team playing their GF
Oi!
He’s a bit less boring than Dunstall.
Following Essendon is like living in an elevator… you just keep going up & down.
Yesterday did give me the most hope for the future that I’ve had all year.
Baldwin - who was constantly being overlooked was a major source of many frustrations - was very good again and is a good kick and doesn’t panic.
Cox - that mark he took on the wing - only to be robbed - was all class. That is the best game I have seen him play. Loved that he looked at home up forward.
Perkins - I don’t believe he is a midfielder, certainly not yet; but, he is going to be a hell of an impact player up forward.
Hobbs - is as tough as old boots, reminds me of Oliver, some of his kicks are scrubbers; but, it’s because he gets the ball when he shouldn’t and is still forcing it our way.
Bryan - Is starting to show some forward smarts and is taking some marks around the ground and will get better next year.
Menzie - best game I’ve seen him play. Still don’t think you can play him with Guelfi & Snelling in the same side; but, he is the future there.
Martin - on the wing - who knew?
Durham - Disposal still needs some work; but, his attack on the ball and his contested marking are going to be a massive asset.
Hind - I know he is not young; but, since coming back in, he looks a different player.
I almost wish that was our last game of the season, because there were so many positives and so much to look forward to next year.
Then again, maybe the elevator is just on the penthouse floor
You know nothing of the crunch.
How dare you speak of the crunch.
You’ve never even been to the crunch.
Not sure if it’s wise to delist Kelly just yet. Yes, he’s got his deficiencies. But he’s also very good at getting that back line organised.
Which it needs desperately.
What a stupid comment
We’ve nearly beaten Port twice; led the best team in the comp by 5 goals at 3/4 time; lost to last yrs GFinalist swans by 2 pts; beaten Melbourne and Carlton and had our best ruckman, defender and forward plus 3 other starting players out of Saturday’s team, and out for many weeks.
We deserve to be fighting for a finals spot. It’s a very even comp and we deserve to be in the mix
What’s with our supporters constantly bagging this team?
New coach, new system of play, and many long term injuries.
Youngsters Bryan, Perkins, Caldwell, Martin, Hobbs and now Tsatas developing fantastically. That’s 1/3 of the team!!
With Ried, Davey x 2, Baldwin, Jones waiting in the wings. The next few yrs look great.
The point is not to bag this current team for 20 yrs of club disappointments.
Which is balanced out by nearly losing 3 times to the worst 2 teams that this comp has seen in 20 years. We have been gifted 4 games against 2 utterly putrid teams that are are arguably worse than our saga year team
redman
but every now and then he’ll get caught out focusing too much on what everyone else is doing enough to get torched by his man. he’ll then go quietly play 1v1 for the next 20min
Probably so Carlton don’t repeat 2011 on us all over again.
Just for one second though, imagine if we beat them to break the drought.
I’m slowly coming round to the idea of having a crack at them.
If we beat them I’d probably get banned from here for a month
If we lose to them I’d probably get banned from here for a year
What have I got to lose
Be careful what you wish for. You’ll be curled up in the featal position in a psych lab for years.
I thought hawks were going to be putrid this year?? We beat them easily also.
North have lost 4 games by less than one goal and ‘Cunners’ retired yesterday and have 3 top 10 young guns in the comp.
You can look at things how you want.
I see many more positives than negatives.
We’ve won half our games with a young developing team and our b&f not playing before round 13.
And all the pundits had us bottom 4
Absolutely but I just cant see how you can say we were were really good against some quality teams but then not admit that we were horrible in 4 games against utter rabble.
Our percentage isn’t great and is a pretty accurate reflection of where we sit.
There have been several games this year where I thought we performed better than we should have and equally there are plenty of games where we have performed far worse IMO
Unfortunately I think we are a long way off still
nothing can ever be worse than 99, inagine if we made it and it’s carlton , we will be 1000% underdog. imagine if stringer Draper and merret and wright langford wreak havoc on them on their absolute best day out.
What I feel we are sorely missing is a reliable 2nd tall forward and a big CHB. I really enjoy how BZT plays his footy but he’s just not big enough to take the opposition’s best forward; get McKay in the off season and keep BZT.
I’ve seen enough improvement from the younger players this year to believe we aren’t too far off being a good side. Just need to trade/draft in the right players ( I know this probably seems unlikely) and we can expect improvement next season.
Laverde was so poor yesterday. He went for two marks in our D50 when he should’ve spoiled, that resulted in opposition goals. I was a big fan of his last year, but now I think he’s no longer best 22. Next year’s backline I’d like to see:
McGrath McKay Cox
Redman BZT Ridley
Baldwin the 7th defender.
Heppell has been great recently. Would be happy to have him contacted next year but in a depth role.
For me personally that Geelong game was a real reality check. I know we have injuries and can improve but until we can stop having blow out losses like that I’m very pessimistic.
