Probably a better outcome if they are. Forced into giving an opportunity to give the players that will replace them
I can beat that.
At the time of his appointment, I said it is a big mistake and he should never have been appointed.
His whole reputation is based on winning 1 flag by a single point, despite having the best midfield of modern times, the biggest home ground advantage of maggots’ “help”, and a team that was obviously and self-admittedly playing on illegal drugs that made them “feel bulletproof”.
He would have NONE of those advantages with us, so would consign us to mediocrity.
Which he has done.
We need a new Captain. Dyson is a good player and a top bloke, but does he demand excellence from the team? I look at Goddard and the competitiveness that he showed, that is what this team needs. Do we have such a player on our list?
The management of the players mental health I can maybe give him a tick for. But his man management skills as a whole has been ■■■■ poor when it comes to on field.
Its just about shutting up the minions.
Paul Brasher leaves me with absolutely zero confidence going forward.
He is not the guy that is going to call for change unfortunately.
His appointment is absolutely business as usual.
It is good to see some media heat being applied.
and it will continue to come as we go winless for the rest of the season.
I look forward to the club doing something desperate like playing Daniher, stringer and heppell in one of the upcoming dead rubbers and probably ending their careers.
The hardest thing is to accept that we are that loser club. We are the Richmond of yesteryear… the Melbourne, the Carlton… that is the bracket where everyone else puts us.
2004 was our last finals win… not last flag… last finals win. That is beyond a joke.
Wooosha needs to be asked to leave today, right now… good bye. Rutten and Caracella need to go back to the drawing board and find a formula that works with the group we have.
Sack Dodo today… good bye and good riddance. Find some talent. Invest in the development of our young players. Drive excellence and reward effort with senior selection.
Sack, trade or put in a cannon… any player over 27 that is not consistently in our top 10 best players or clearly not part of our next premiership. Just do it. Cut the list deep. Even a kid picked at 190 is going to give more effort than some of our lazy, entitled jokes. We need an entire culture reset.
Where is the accountability?! I had hope… I now have none. And for anyone thinking woosha has been anything other than a complete unmitigated disaster… wtf are you watching? A coach leaves the club after FIVE years in charge… and we have nothing to show for it… we don’t have a game style… we don’t have a good young crop of kids… we don’t have a finals win… we have a big fat ZERO for achievements.
Woosha leaves the list in worse shape than both Knights and Sheedy did… let that sink in. Guy is deadset a fraud… and I’ve said that for years. Fire CEO out of a cannon too for re-signing him… joke of decision for a joke of club.
There is zero hope we turn it around within the decade.
fcking sick of it.
Honest question, wasn’t he also on the board in 2012?
Doesn’t look like the type that will have the balls to publicly call out the club like Melbourne’s president did.
I’m guessing Brasher was an internal appointment why not hire a president who hasn’t been at the club?
Hiring some one from the inside means nothing will change he’ll just follow the same values that’s already been established.
Heppell has some fantastic a qualities as a human being.
Humble, kind, hard worker. Can lift when team has needed him.
I’ve met him at a Leongatha footy Grand Final.
They just won,and my daughter interrupted him with his mates as they ran onto the ground to celebrate.
I posted this on blitz, lauding him as a gentleman, great values. He knelt down to my 6 year old, answered patiently as his mates ran off. I was in the distance,I saw it was genuine.Awesome stuff.
BUT.
He lacks that killer instinct, like say a Goddard.
That wont mince words, that will at the risk of offending-say what really needs to be said.
All I see post match after a loss,is him pitting his arm around blokes and consoling them. And that’s really kind and compassionate. Its who he is.
But its not what we need right now.
If it was Goddard,he would have well and truly lost his ■■■■ at this group, and divided them.
And that’s what we need right now,a division, not unity.
Sound strange? Ill tell you why.
Because we need to separate the club from those that are happy to collect their pay, treat it like a job,and never really do what it takes to become ruthlessly dedicated to success.
We don’t have a culture of success,it needs to be created, and that requires some kind of upheaval, some pain, some sacrifice.
And when you have a CEO that is more concerned with the perception of stability and unity to drive revenue, then we are doomed.
Isnt it strange that membership, and sponsorship, and profits can in no way be attributed to on field performance?
THAT speaks volumes of where the clubs true focus lies. And it has been AT THE EXPENSE of on field performance.
As a member,I dont feel part of 'a club.
My membership feels like I’m paying for a share in a corporation that constantly markets in a way that entices me to keep investing but produces mediocre results.
Sadly,I support a business at the moment,not a club.
Until I see upheaval, not innovational, smooth transitional, corporate speak mumbo jumbo strategic planning. It is going to continue the mirage a that fools’us’ the supporte…i mean investors into a marketed and manipulated perception we are headed for success.
I want a simple message- If you don’t want to sacrifice what needs to done in order to improve and change, leave now! Fark off!
I think some of our post saga elder statesmen might feel they have sacrificed enough. But that’s a whole other story.
It’s the truth, and its just sad.
thanks Clark, but I reckon I was about a decade too late!
There are still clappers clapping, but boy is the tide turning in the real world with people I know, as well as online.
End of next year the masses might realise we are on a hiding to nothing - but I fear there is now precious little we can do. List is a shambles, no pick under 30 in 3 years and nobody with any sort of currency that would actually offload (assuming the club turns rational).
I dont want to say it, but I think the darkness is about to start. I cant see a way out for a long time unfortunately. A trust me, I hope I am 100% wrong but I dont see a flag or genuine tilt anytime soon. Talking the 20’s here.
The club, Essendon, exists to win premierships. To be ruthless on the field. Arrogant even, based on performance.
The club, Essington, exists to be mediocre. To be happy to finish 8th and lose the first final by 100pts, to make big profits as a measure of success. Essington is dominating at the moment. We are meek and timid.
More Essendon less Essington.
As I said in the other thread, we can change personnel and talk about Bad culture all we like… but until we address the clubs Corporate values (which is currently entrenched in the football department), there is no point.
At the moment our values reflect kids sport, where everyone gets a prize for participating.
We MUST get back to the clubs values of old… people at the club can scoff at this all they like. But they Are the values that won us 16 premierships & also define the supporter base as a community.
Honesty, consistency, courage, passion, Success, Accountability
We expect these things from our club. The members are going to be disenfranchised from the club until they move back to these values.
He lacks that killer instinct, like say a Goddard.
That wont mince words, that will at the risk of offending-say what really needs to be said.
Pretty hard to have that when you’re injured for the best part of 2 years. How do you judge someone as captain without any evidence of how he’s leading the team on the field?
I’m comfortable that I’ve never seen killer instinct in Heppell. Doesn’t necessarily make him a bad captain but probably doesn’t make him the captain we need right now. Probably the perfect bloke to lead us out of the saga but right now we need ruthlessness.
Mark Johnson / Damien Hardwick / Dean Solomon
Joel Selwood / Matt Scarlett / Paul Chapman
Luke Hodge / Sam Mitchell / Jordan Lewis
Ruthless bastards who go right to the edge of the line every time that they cross it.
If that means we get 30 matches a year in suspensions because we are judged on different criteria than the rest of the comp then so be it.
Sam Draper has a bit in him. 2017 Dev Smith had a lot. Stringer has a bit. Townsend, Ambrose and Clarke don’t mind hurting blokes. You don’t win premierships unless the other 17 teams fear you, at least a bit.
Imagine we let similar players go and stuff up the draft picks. Is that a great draft like the Rozee, Butters draft
Ok.
Let’s say behind closed doors he does have a more ruthless approach.
Its even more a reason to say he probably isn’t the right fit,as its mot having the desired influence.
