What’s frustrating is we are having dominant periods in games, even against very good opposition, but are unable to generate any meaningful reward on the scoreboard.
The players aren’t getting any nourishment for the effort and work rate, which is there.
Our forward line is a bit makeshift and B grade at best. Langers looks underdone and it’s taken years to put him forward, we have no great small forwards, Wright (seems a really nice guy and that’s the problem) just doesn’t have the mongrel required to be the focal point, Jones is now being trialled on the wing, Caddy doesn’t even get a game for the week after kicking two goals in a tight match and running hard, and our small forward Menzie is turning it over in the backline and (though the umpiring was disgusting) stepping over the goal line lol, meanwhile Stringer is talented but you could hardly say he’s given his all in preparation. It’s a bit of a disaster. Throw ■■■■ forward 50 entries on top and we get no reward for effort.
If you were a non Ess supporter trawling our forum and reading most of the content over the past 21hrs, you’d find it quite amusing.
Imagine being a Saints fan, or a Crows fan and reading the words “re-build” from a team’s supporters who’s team sits 9 - 5 - 1.
Obviously, we’re all anticipating what is to come in the next 2 months, and it’s a horror movie we’ve all seen before (could even be the Director’s Cut).
Just an amusing observation of the week to week emotional rollercoaster of a hard core footy fan.
I don’t think that’s true at all.
Different clubs are different times of their path or window. Some have hit rock bottom and are starting their progression forward whilst others are starting their slide down. Then you have clubs who have botched their rebuilds and probably need to start again. Most clubs are realistic with where they find themselves at least internally anyway. We are in that middling group that aren’t going to drop to bottom but most likely won’t see much success either. I’d think we will just drift between 7th to 14th for several years without ever seriously threatening but also not bottoming out
I would instantly trade places with a team at the bottom of the ladder, because we don’t have enough talent and this season is tracking beautifully for another year of mid table purgatory.
We have guys who have breakout seasons like Langford and Martin who look like they could become perennial AA picks, and then they drop back to the pack.
The list is just bog average and once the big boys start rolling towards finals we fall away.
Coaching team are doing a great job with average cattle.
