We currently sit 4th but i feel we’re actually closer to finishing bottom 4 than top 4. If we fall in a heap from here, I think 2025 will be an absolute disaster.

We’ve spent so much draft capital on big guys and the best of them are Draper, Jones and Cox.
Meanwhile Sydney barely has a bloke over 200cm and they’re smashing teams

Because they used to do it and it was ■■■■■■■ stupid.
I’m a little shocked at how surprising this downfall is to some people.
I know we are all one eyed supporters for the most part, but I still fail to see how some people here can honestly believe this list is going somewhere.
We have done a tremendous job this year to be where we are. 4th, and got ourselves to a point to go a game or two clear in top 4. Full credit to Scott and co.
But, the list. This list is not good. And I still couldn’t tell you, even though it’s been literal years of the same ■■■■, I still couldn’t tell you if it’s a recruiment issue or a development issue.
But how many players over how many years are we going to persist with because we think they’re going to develop into guns??
And why can’t we ever seem to have a list with CONSISTENT performers?
Why does it feel like a large portion of our list are, and continue to be, in the same ilk of Zaharakis?
1 good game, 2 ordinary games. Rinse repeat. Always doing enough for a spot, never doing enough to change the teams fortunes.
And before you know it, they’re 28, almost cooked and have zero trade value.
Or we get one season wonders who fail to back it up.
Are we going to hold on to guys like Archie Perkins if he gives us the Zaharakis? When do we make the call on that? He’s 22.
Do we wait 3,4,5 more years? Is it going to be patchy footy the whole way with 1 game in every 4 being excellent.
Parish? Wasn’t he a superstar 3 years ago? Injuries sure, but who else apart from our skipper is giving us year after year of consistency in the midfield?
Stringer? Consistency.
Wright? Consistency.
I could go on and on about the uncertainly and inconsistency in our playing list but the proof is in the pudding. Here we are, yet again, for the 23rd-24th season in a row, found wanting. Here we are, yet again, watching sides grow as the season goes on, watching teams rise, fall and rise again around us while we sit in our comfort zone of 8th-15th.
We NEVER have the talent to start grabbing good sides by the neck and beating them up at the business end of the season. It’s soooooo ■■■■■■■ predictable what this team will do when it matters.
We sit 4th now…should be happy. And yeah I am a gloomer. Can’t help it. This club has seriously ■■■■■■ me mentally. My default setting is to be inevitably let down by this club because I’ve never seen different. I’ve not seen the glorious 80s that people talk so fondly about.
How bout some of that now!?!?!
But when we slide to 8th or probably miss finals, am I a gloomer, or a realist? I simply don’t see what other see.
I see, still, the same things I’ve seen for 20 ■■■■■■■ years. A team capable of beating anyone when they’re on, but incapable of producing it when the pressure rises.
A team destined to let it’s fans down every year because the list is never made of the right stuff.
We need a good, hard rebuild.
Either that or our young core will need to be the kids that reshape the mentality of this club. And I’m not seeing it.
Hard times ahead for us I think, because I think this is the best this list can produce.

I get this is the Lid On thread, but I have to touch on this comment.
The general consensus of every supporter base would have exactly the same view currently, except for Sydney, Carlton, Hawthorn & Freo.
McDonald kicks that shot after the siren, Freo fans would be saying the same thing.
