Lid ON 2024. A wake up call ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not guaranteeing anything.

But Marvel suits our gamestyle better than any other ground in the AFL.

:skull:

There is a lid on or a lid off thread. Depending on the mood of the day . Whats it matter as long as your playing in the right sandpit?

We’ve beaten every team we’ve played that doesn’t currently have a winning record (7-0). That’s good. Four more of those games to come. We’ve beaten 1 team out of 5 that has a winning record. That’s less good. Seven more of those games to come. Seems perfectly crafted to get 13 wins and lose an elimination final, really.

The ‘bunchiness’ of the Ladder from 2nd to 10th probably means that acquiring the 8th spot will require 13 wins with a good percentage.
Obviously for us that’s 13.5
5 more wins.
So if we lose on Sunday, that’s 5 from 10 required.
The pessimistic may contend we could easily miss with a challenging enough draw.

Conversely, this ‘bunchiness’ will lend itself to higher finishes with modest upgrades on 13.5 wins.

14.5 might be good for 6th or better.
15.5 might have a shot at 4th or better.

There could legitimately be a team that finishes with 13 wins but misses the finals.

It’s Sydney miles ahead of everyone, and then there’s not much between 2nd and 11th. Will come down a lot to luck with injuries and the draw

I, like @bltn , am very wary of the ‘bunchiness.’

I’m am so 50/50 Lid on/off at the moment.

My head is saying Lid on, we’re gonna fade away like we always do as our ladder position flatters us greatly.

My heart is saying ‘This is the year.’

I reckon the result on sunday will tip me either way.

The performance will for me but not the result. We could lose and still have a good finish to the year. I don’t think it will pan out that way but it could, considering how good the Blues look lately.

I personally think we need a proper scalp if we are serious about this year. As it stands, we’ve beaten 1 team currently in the 8, and they are 7th.

And there are no honourable losses to fark carlton.

Our best is good enough to beat them.

If we had a fit team, I’d agree, but on paper I don’t think we have the 22 available to do the job unless Carlton don’t perform to their ability. Fully fit, we could put more emphasis on the result. A

s much as I’d want to disappear into another dimension if we lose by a point, that might actually be a performance that gets us a home final assuming we keep it up post bye.

We haven’t played half the sides in the 8 and the ones we haven’t have hardly been convincing!

Maybe part of the reason the sides not in the 8 is because we rolled them?

Do you honestly think that’s the case?

The dogs?

Yes.

GWS would be second.

Oh ok, I guess we’ve got a few scalps this year then.

Nothing to worry about.

The Dogs are a good team and I count it as a good win

As it currently stands, there are 11 teams in the hunt for finals. Not sure why there’s focus on just whoever is in the 8 at the end of a round

Probably because it’s the lid on thread?

yeah look at the Hawks. Their current form looks above what we got in round 1.

But swings and roundabouts take a look at Port. Form line is good but not great.

Then if you look within individuals games. The scum look like a sensational win in Adelaide(that we couldnt come near) but jt was only on the back of a one quarter blitz.

We really got our arse handed to us by Port in a half.

Sydney is the one team - to me im suprised the media isnt more lid off about them.

They are putting together an incredible season and they are good for 4 quarters every week.

You don’t need to just look at the current top 8 to be lid on!

2 wins against top 11 sides in 6 games is nothing to be lid off about

Just looking at the games where the top 11 teams have played eachother

We are 9th for points for (81 per game)
We are 9th for points against (91 per game)
