List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

Is Bailey a leader tho?

Our Priority is building a team of young players, and bringing in 1-3 elite leaders.

Not withstanding the fact they’d probably get picked up on reduced time and money contracts elsewhere, if we wanted to delist all those guys at the end of this year someone would have to get very busy with the spreadsheets for it not to be a salary cap problem.

Pick 1 this year. Use picks we get for Merrett & Ridley to get another top 10 pick.

Pick 2 next year. Hopefully Bewick is a jet and is worth matching the bid.

Pick 1-3 in 2028. By this point we ask for a priority pick. 2x top 5 picks.

Unfortunately due to the new matching rules, clubs won’t want to trade out a pick 5 for our pick 19 and 22.

Yep

And I don’t hate having (eg) pick 1, plus 3 picks around 15-24. Maybe not as sexy as pick 1 + 5, not it’s not a terrible result at all.

Yep let Cads, May, Kako and the new kids know they got the keys to the club (they know our senior players are junk anyway) and that we prioritising the high end picks.

I’d like to trade for 2027 picks to match our kids. #19 this year may get you a middle ranked team’s first in 2027. As if they finish 10th they’ll get pick #15, with a bunch of 17 yr olds already taken. So #19 this year may be preferable. Similar with #24 and a team who finishes around 6th.

Squad 2001+ (U25)
B. Kondogiannis Reid Gerreyn(?)
Hb. Roberts Hayes Farrow
C. Clarke Sharp Johnson
Hf. Day-Wicks Caddy Kako
F. El Achkar May _____
R. Bryan Robey Martin
I. Durham ____ _____ Nguyen Vigo(?)

Prior Perkins El-Hawli - potential to slot in
Cox Unwin Jones McMahon Tsatas - unlikely

Trade Targets:
Darcy Wilson, 20 (speedy)
Max Gruzewski, 21 (3rd tall fwd with x factor)
Elijah Hewett, 21 (mid with speed)

Take what we can for Merrett & Ridley - we should get an extra end of first round pick with the new draft rules. Hopefully cash and age profile can be enough of a sell to trade targets - Wilson likely to be the only one to involve a first (late) or two 2nds… his running power fits our list need significantly.

Ideally take 2-3 first rounders in this year’s draft - with at least 1 being a small forward.

We’ll be fine though, Carlton or PA will have to match our bid and we get an extra pick at the end of the first round.
Possibly with the picks incoming we can trade up into another top 10, or possibly slide into next years draft in the first round also. We will have the ammo, its just about using it correctly.

Rowell is a FA and ooc next year

Fark off Merret and Parish bring in Rowell

Rowell
Sharp
Durham
Caldwell

Rowell & Anderson are best friends. Trade out Merrett, Parish, Ridley.

Offer both of them 2 million each, heavily front ended. Who cares if it’s obscene.

You can’t trade up with the new second round priority picks because they’re not handed out until after the first round picks have occurred.

We can trade them into 2027 though.

Oh really that makes sense actually, I’m assuming depending on other trades and picks that come in might be worth trading it with something else to get into the first round next year as we’ll have to use our actual first pick on Bewick.

Yep, as I said above:

Because as a minimum we probably want to match Bewick and Darwish (sp?).

Unfortunately we still have way too many list cloggers, who are still in contract.

Which means tough calls will be made on players like Gerreyn and El-Hawli.

We still need elite midfield talent at least 2 more

At least another small forward pace

A ruck

If we aren’t competitive between the arcs then you are no hope

Oops I forgot and a new coaching panel

Not really. If we traded picks #19 and #24 for 2027 picks, then the ā€œsix certaintiesā€ up above by @nickers would give enough picks. Even if Tsatas and Merrett gives us 1-3 more picks we’d still be taking 2-3 late picks (including Justice). That’s without touching SEH or Gerreyn, or allowing for any other picks traded into 2027 or senior players leaving. Or Cox or Perkins leaving.

And that all assumes the promising kids keep progressing, and aren’t cut down by injuries.

As far as im concerned we dont have a backline.

We have Roberts and Farrow, thats it.

We need to find 4 defenders, 2 of those key position.
