List Status for 2021 - Updates

I’m praying we don’t go after Oscar McDonald who’s just been delisted by Melbourne. Bloke is a genuine spud.

Updated at the top for Phillips new contract.
Leaves Stewart Mozzie & Townsend unsigned.

What about Mozzie?

Not yet for him either. Club will no doubt send out an email to members when they’ve confirmed them :+1:

So Mozzie is the only senior list player unsigned, right? And he was in that photo with the whiteboard so likely is signed but the club is waiting to announce it.

Which means unless Cutler is out for any reason, our senior list is locked in and we have only 4 list spots open. Hopefully it means Cutler is out. But the alternative is we’re either

  • Hoping/expecting Eyre lasts to the rookie draft
  • Don’t play to take both (either?) NGAs; or
  • Plan to trade one top 10 pick for a 2021 pick(s), or two of our picks for one better pick.

The club announces further list changes following the completion of the trade period.

Essendon Football Club wishes to thank Jacob Townsend and Henry Crauford for their services in the red and black, after they were informed they would not be offered contracts for the 2021 season.

The club also acknowledges the services of Martin Gleeson and Dylan Clarke, who were informed they would be delisted with the intention to be reinstated on the rookie list should they be available for selection in the upcoming AFL rookie draft.

Townsend was given a lifeline by the Bombers at the end of 2019 during the AFL pre-season supplemental selection period, after being delisted by the Tigers in the same year. The premiership player arrived at the NEC Hangar after stints at Richmond and Greater Western Sydney, playing 12 games for Essendon in 2020.

Crauford was also taken via the pre-season supplemental selection period from SANFL club Norwood. The 204cm prospect won the SANFL reserves’ best and fairest award in 2019 but failed to make a senior appearance for the Bombers in 2020.

General manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro thanked Townsend and Crauford for their contributions to the Bombers.

“On behalf of everyone at Essendon, I’d like to thank both Jacob and Henry for their services during their 12 months at the club,” Dodoro said.

“They are both terrific young men and it’s always a difficult part of the year having to say goodbye so we wish them all the very best for their futures.

“We have also advised Marty and Dylan of our intention to re-draft them as rookies via the AFL rookie draft in December and we look forward to seeing them develop further as footballers.”

Townsend and Crauford join Shaun McKernan, Mitch Hibberd, Kobe Mutch, Josh Begley and Noah Gown as delistings. Retired pair Tom Bellchambers and Conor McKenna have also departed, while Joe Daniher (Brisbane), Adam Saad (Carlton) and Orazio Fantasia (Port Adelaide) have found new homes.

I hope to god that someone takes gleeson before we do

Looks like we might be clearing some list spots to split one of our picks?

Well, that’s Mozzies list spot safe.

I doubt anyone takes Glees or Clarke, if for no other reason than they’re contracted iirc.

Or DFA’s

Going to be a number of players cut loose due to list size/cap changes that otherwise might be kept and still viable players. Hoping Narkle

Can we ctrl + z their contracts?

So this gives us 33 senior listed (assuming Mozzie)
4 rookie Cat A (Snelling, Gleeson, Clarke and McQuillan)
2 rookie Cat B (McBride and Hird)

Gives us room for 5 draftees plus 1 when Mozzie gets LTI’ed in the SSP (Stoddart, Matera, Lockyer).

I reckon it’s only 32 senior listed, so 6 spots free. Who am I missing?

Big moves. Tough on Gleeson and Clarke, given they both played plenty of football this year. I assume we think they’re pretty safe to get through. Makes me think we were operating on a different assumption regarding senior/rookie/cat b list sizes.

I make it 6 senior, 0 rookie (Cat A or Cat B) as well.

Good moves. Doesn’t actually make a difference for Gleeson or Clarke, and opens up more flexibility with the senior list.
