Live pick trading

Frankly, I think the idea sucks. Team’s who only need (or think they need) one piece of the jigsaw would overpay for that player, pushing teams who need quantity and quality, rather than just one quality, down the pecking order. You would see more moves similar to what Hawthorn did last year with O’Meara except for a draftee, where a team in the premiership slot would give up all its points to get that one quality player, then pick up some state league players late (kind of like Geelong did in the Dangerfield year, entering the draft about pick 60 and taking Menegola and a few others late).

This would extend the life of teams at the top, while a team at the bottom who needs to fill multiple spots on its list won’t get the cream. And that will mean they can’t really challenge later, unless they draft exceptionally well, or it is a deep draft.

I’ve no issue with the northern academies (if they’d restrict GWS’s to a sensible area) and would strengthen FA compo. I’d also add priority picks.
