Local Cricket 2026/27

Fronted up for a debut game at age 40, worried about what could’ve gone wrong.

Rolled them for 76 and picked it off 4 down.

Personally, 0.3 overs 1/0. Didn’t get to put the pads on.

I got talked into a comeback after 17yrs
We got rolled by 10 runs, I made 9 of the worst you’ll ever see
Took 2 for 38 off 6, 1st wicket from a rank full toss that should have gone to the carpark

My comeback game last year at 49yo (my son started playing seniors so I wanted to play a season with him) lasted 1 1/2 games and then I fully ruptured my achilles going for a single.

Planning a second comeback next Winter season :crossed_fingers:. What could go wrong hey!?

Humble dad brag…my 16yo scored 130* from 105 balls today as captain of his Div 2 U17 rep side. Beat the top side by 5 runs

Local game abandon on Saturday as druggie interrupted play and wouldn’t get off the field. Fight breaks outs and players make citizen’s arrest until police arrive. Druggie starts biting the people restraining him. Great way to kick off round 1.

Reading this, I have made the right choice to stay retired.

That’s the one Cluden v Le Page

Cluden used to be a bunch of ratbags, playing in a park surrounded by expensive Brighton homes.

When I was umpiring in that comp, I got appointed to them at home 2 matches in a row and one of their guys said “someone on the appointments committee sure hates you”.

John Bennett was their best player, played FF for St Kilda and Footscray in the 80s then quite a few years at Sandringham. Fat and bald is how I remember him.

We used to get people walking on the enclosed ground at Glen Huntly, by Caulfield racecourse, during games, usually with a dog. It’s council land, they’d say, not on Saturdays noon till 6, we’d say. Further discussion would ensue depending on their attitude. Voluntary assumption of risk, we’d say, or for people who knew Latin, “non fit iniuria volenti”, now f*** off.

Anyone who’s played park cricket has had this conversation 50 times over…

Normally doesn’t end with a punch on.

I was more talking about them accepting responsibility if they got hit by a cricket ball dispatched from the centre wicket area.

Airport West St. Christopher’s have signed Lancashire and England Test spinner Tom Hartley for this season! Go from playing at Old Trafford to Eztel St Reserve!

Tougher assignment this week. Mob we’re playing put up 200+ in their 35 overs last week.

Another Lancashire player. Playing on hard wicket!

Well for some unknown reason I have fully committed to this ridiculous “comeback”
New bat, pads, gloves, bag etc

And I sucked at cricket in my 20’s :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’d never played a game before last weekend.

I’ll be holding onto 1/0 and a wicket on my 3rd ball on debut for a while.

Colts started last night and was good to catch up with Aidan Schubert who came out to watch his younger brother

The boys telll me, once you buy a new bat, you’re committed to cricket for the next 5 years.

Yeah that sounds like the same thing I’m being told here!

I just said if you cant be good you may as well look good
