Luckiest Players?

Not Essendon but Aaron Keating was lucky. 6 games for 2 premierships due to injuries to other ruckmen at Adelaide at finals time.

Mario Bortolotto.  2 flags. Given the ■■■■ by Geelong and by Carlton a year after the second flag. Was also infamous for being awarded a TV for being  best on ground in an Escort Cup match by Lou Richards when he had a total of 6 kicks.

Robbert Klomp won the TV.

You are right. My mistake.

Campbell Brown.

Anyone who has played for Essendon.

Reckon Paul Hills was pretty lucky.

He was third luckiest to win a premiership medal that year...
who were the first 2?
Wallis would be one.
I hope he isn't going to say Watson.

I reckon Tim's said as much over the years, my problem is, apart from Derick (who had a shocking finals series) I dunno who plays instead, flood, Ridley, cransberg & Delaney don't seem like they would've done much better.

Ha, I remember posting that…

No, didn’t mean Timmy at all, he earnt that medal. I’m pretty sure I meant another very famous Essendon surname.

Forgot about CD. That would be the one.

Buddy Franklin?

Did Michael Quinn ever get a footy card?

I've got his badge adorning my scarf, among equally forgettable others.

Luke Hodge as a premiership captain.

EDIT: Oh and Norm Smith Medalist. Clinton Young (if I have the right name) played a countless better match than him.

Luke Hodge as a premiership captain.

Young went off too early to win it.

Also Young kicked it to the other side about 5 times IIRC. Beautiful, long, perfectly weighted, left foot, raking turnovers. Which about sums up his career!

Hodge was clearly Hawthorn’s best player. By a country mile.

Then probably Ellis, Sewell, Dew, Williams did his job, Osborne, Crawford, then maybe Young.

GAJ best on though.

Alessio,Bolton

Henry Slattery

THere were a few around 1970-71 who were not long-serving players - off the top of my bonce, Vic Papp, Michael Bates, John May, Andrew Radchenko, Rod McFarlane, Trevor Heath

Played cricket with Andrew Radchenko - a frightening fast bowler.  Won a club best and fairest presented by Nookie Swanson from the Essendon Cricket Club who asked him how he did it.  "Natural brilliance" was the reply.
