I see no reason as to why Bird wasn’t played, he was seemingly gifted games early even without decent form, then gets rested the week after his best game… And like 2-3 weeks after the bye???
Then we get smashed in clearances…
As a slight defence to Demps - was it me it was it a crap high tackle call? Looked like he grabbed his jumper, so pretty hard to be high, although I could have seen it wrong…on top of that, every single week players clearly and obviously swear at decisions / umpires, they usually only pay 50 for demonstrative, now 2 of our players have given 50’s purely for language? I personally haven’t seen that in any other game.
Doesn’t excuse him at all, but I could understand his frustration.
Everyone has their own opinions obviously and I imagine almost everyone disagrees, but for me today wasn’t a patch on 2012’s game against Melbourne. Went in 8-1 against a 0-9 Melbourne (who only beat us, 1st year GWS and 2nd year GC that year). Lost by kicking 6.16. Any time I get angry after a loss I think “was it worse than Melbourne 2012?” and then I get angry thinking about that game instead. It’s like reverse meditation.
Edit: Forgot the key fact that it was the night of my 30th birthday. What a ■■■■ day that was, top to bottom. ■■■■.
Sounds like a simple stupid question, but why isn't anyone at Essendon a good set shot for goal?
NO ONE is a good set shot for goal, not one player. None of our players can you look at when they’re having a shot and think “Right we got one here”. Every single player on our list, is questionable in front of goal, no matter the angle, distance or ground.
Imagine a basketball side in the NBA that didn’t have the ability to shoot?
It beggars belief that these players who have aspired to play AFL football probably all their lives, have finally made it onto an AFL list, train nearly every day, are given a footy to practice with when away from the club and still can’t hit a target 30m in front of them. If they were in a real job and failed to deliver on performance expectations they would be moved on and replaced with someone who could deliver. And these are guys in their 20s with a job which pays them, on average around 250k - 300k/year plus many fringe benefits.
And we front up and pay our $25/game minimum to watch and endure 2 hours of frustration and ineptitude. For 4 years our club, the players and the supporters have withstood a constant barrage from all sides. We have been told to move on and some have and some haven’t - to each their own. We go to the footy to get some enjoyment but leave dejected. It wears you down after a while.
I do not, like many other Bomber supporters, subscribe to the belief that we will be a force again next year when our suspended players return. Nothing is automatic and heaven only knows the mental state the 12 players are in. It may very well be that some of these players are like the boxer who had one fight too many. I hope I’m wrong but I worry.
Today was only my second game for the year and we looked and played like amateurs. I cannot fathom why they would play Fantasia on the wing when he is our most dangerous small forward.
But I can see some good signs in Fantasia, LaVerde, Langford, Parish, Francis, Tippa and can see that Hartley and Dea might be keepers and add value and depth to the backline with potentially, Bags, Hurley, Hooker and Pig back in the team. Leuenberger is also worth keeping on.
But I share your disappointment and frustration Blitzers.
Chill the ■■■■ out!
This year is purely about development. We’ve seriously found at least 6 very good young kids.
People want us to tag, what’s the point? I’m sure Woosh could have been more negative, but I really think it’s less about wins and more about individual performances. Let the heat come and see who swims.
I’ve enjoyed the year because I had reasonable expectations.
I’m guessing in a few months we’ll be glad we have pick 1 in the draft and PSD.
Got a feeling something of quality might be coming out way.
Just praying for Hurley to return.
Same. In 6 weeks+ time when we have a myriad of different options open to us to improve the talent within our club via trade or draft, this game or this weird @rse season won’t mean much to us. Exciting times ahead. Our young talent is and will be super exciting.
I wrote a big rant in response to fog’s post, but seem to have hit the wrong button and lost it. Probably not a bad thing.
Anyway, draft picks come and go. Spoons are forever. Yeah, fog’s perfectly entitled to react in his own way, but I AM upset.
Hard to get that upset about a game that means nothing.
I mean that both in the sense that a win for Brisbane meant a hell of a lot more to their club, than ours, who have the luxury of losing without as severe ramifications.
I also mean it personally - as in, I think the game of AFL means nothing to me anymore… I want to see banned boys return and raise hell, but find it hard to care about the AFL “product”.

Was really hoping for one more win and that was our chance. Things have been looking mostly good for the past month and a win was just around the corner. This hurts.

Yeah that is perfectly understandable and reasonable HM.
Maybe it’s sort of a protective mechanism to deal with it and I have been somewhat numbed by the last few years but I am investing hope in committing to a proper rebuild, and getting top end talent into the club is the best start. Perhaps pick 1 will allow us to trade for two top 10 picks or get a couple of promising players via a trade. Or simply having first crack at the best talent in the country.
Big who cares. Do I want a wooden spoon? No.
Does it matter about pick 1v2, not really.
Not much point being disappointed.
I never expected to win this. Far too much at stake for Bris and Leppa to drop that game.
Since the suspensions, it’s about learning.
Finding out who can play and who can’t. Then coaching those that can about positioning and learning the game.
That is what’s working. Langford, Laverde, Parish, Francis, Tippa, Hams and Fantasia are what we take out if it.
The negatives are the ones we’ve tried and can’t take us forward. Jerrett, Edwards, Ashby, McKernan.
It hurts losing, we all love the club, we all want wins.
But for now, it’s the hurt we have to have to make us a powerhouse once again, and when we are, these ■■■■ times will make all that sweeter.

Really? I thought we were a much better chance against St Kilda and Richmond simply because they would underrate us and we had the chance to rise to them (which we sometimes do).
On the other hand Brisbane were never going to underestimate us and we have a record of playing down to ■■■■■■ teams.
