Match Review Thread: Bad News Bears def Worse News Bombers

Not even upset.

Same. In 6 weeks+ time when we have a myriad of different options open to us to improve the talent within our club via trade or draft, this game or this weird @rse season won’t mean much to us. Exciting times ahead. Our young talent is and will be super exciting.

Not even upset.

How?

As much as I hate collecting the wooden spoon this shouldn't come as a surprise. No list could take the hit we did and hope to be competitive week in week out.

The game reminded me a lot of the cralscum one earlier this year. At times it was almost benny hill theme music worthy. I think what makes it frustrating is watching a team play themselves out of a game as opposed to being beaten by a better team. Don’t think we know what to do if we are favourites. We have played well when we have been written off.

Positives
Francis. Kid can play and is attacking.
Parish. First year player averaging 20 touches a game.
Langford. Smooth mover will make it.
Laverde. Fantastic mark very aggressive.
Hams. Slowly building.
Merrett. Enough said.
Goodard. Deserves to keep playing. Can make a difference next year.
No. 1 draft pick. Jackets did a secret air punch post game.

Negatives
Cooney. Can have a send off game. No more. No ticker no effort. Going through the motions would rather Jerrett or any other fills that role.
Dempsey. Always been a fan but gee it’s not looking good. That play in the second? Where he gave away 2 frees in front of goal in about 15 seconds and then the 50. Really sums him up over the last few years. Just doesn’t seem to have the right mindset. Pity
Smack. Papers are stamped
Downtown brown. If he converts those chances it’s an ok game. Not dominant enough to miss sitters.
Tippa. Kicking for goal. Will I be banned for writing that? Even tippa couldn’t kick straight today. Wtf has the world gone mad.
Goal kicking. Can’t ever win a game kicking like that.
Wooden spoon. Stuff it to me it doesn’t count.

Excellent post. Agree with all but the last line. We do not want the Wooden Spoon. That will be the biggest disappointment of the year albeit we would get the No1 draft pick.

And Zaka… What can I say? Always back our boys but, time to trade. So disappointing and it appears, no desire. He has been at the club long enough to be a leader but gave nothing today. Kids who’ve played a handful of games showed more leadership, ability and desire.

Zerret - gun
Goddard - thank God
Parish - future gun
Francis - has me salivating

One more win this year please Bombers.

Not even upset.
Fog

I explained to another support don’t worry there are far more dreadful things happening in peoples lives then losing a foot ball game in these circumstances…

Neeedless I followed up with this wont be acceptable next year…

I see a few changes to the coaching panel over summer!

That WAS Cooney’s send-off game.

Heartbreaking.

Bring Bird in?

Not even upset.

Can I have #1 reason? :stuck_out_tongue:

Sure we lost to the basket case that is Brisbane but we should get pick 1 now. Down side is we will record our first wooden spoon since the start of footy but at least it will have asterisk next to it. We are still running out there with youngest team in the comp with the least number of games played. This season we have found:
Parish, Tippa, Fanta, Hartley and now Francis

I feel like saying something controversial

My positives from the game.
Francis looked good, contributed is good marking and reading flight of the ball. Set up a goal when he was up forward.

Parish had another consistent game.
Fantasia quiet early but still kicked 3 goals decent output from small forward, plus that run from the centre and nail goal from 50 was gold class.
Daniher 4.1 should have kicked 5, but u was worried he might have sat on bench whole game after almost getting his teeth knocked out.
Zerrett was good, but not as good as rockliff. Dont think he has reached his ceiling yet he is a gem.
Leuneberger contributed ok, unfortunately we didnt have the midfield to compete at stoppages, felt like we got smashed in the clearances. 47-33, but we won hitouts.

We had more inside 50s 66-54 but wasted it going forward, plus missed easy opportunities.

We had more contested marks 22-10 and more marks inside 50 16-11

umpires well and truly looked after us Albert Thurgood, 24-12.

Less turnovers 66-77

Just lookin at those stats you would think we would have won.

Brisbanes best players played well.

Rockliff, martin, Hanley, Rich, Zorko, bastinac.

We had goddard and zerrett have great games.

Look at players with low fantasy numbers
Bottom 7, 6 were lions + hartley who is a stopper.

Merrett, hammelman, williams, Andrews, Keays, Robinson

Overall we had a better contribution across the team.

Mckernan should be gone, would prefer michael.
There would be doubts over cooney and dempseys playing future next year. Im still in the keep dempsey camp but he is frustrating, and so are cooneys turnovers.

Brown needs to tidy up his kicking for goal if he wants to be part if forwardline next year, cant let thise opportunites go begging.

I feel like saying something controversial

You often do.

Francis Hurley ■■■.

Daniher 4.1 Fantasia 3.1

Cant expect much more from them two.

Brown kicked 1.2 and kicked the hard one missed 2 easy ones.

Tippa 1.3
Not good enough.

Forwardline could work better but Brisbane put good pressure on IMO.

I expect Fantasia to kick his goals before junk time, so l can expect more. But still rate him highly but not on todays effort

Not even upset.

Aaron Francis.

Aaron Francis now thinks that’s senior football.

Not even upset.

How?

Disappointing losses have become the expected norm.

Yes our set shot goal kicking is very ordinary, yes it is a facet of the players game that can be fixed, but it would not happen over night. all players would have had the same set up for multiply years, players also have technique issues with their kicking styles, these two issues would be ingrained in the players subconscious and could take six to twelve months to change. Let's take JD, the first of his problems, is that his run into a set shot is far to long, next his approach is not aligned properly (should run at the centre of the goal), thus when he kicks the ball he naturally brings his leg across the ball instead of through the ball and finally his ball drop is to high, which directly effects what position the ball is in, when he makes connection. All of these things are pretty easy to fix, but as JD has probably done since he was very young, it would take a considerable amount of time for him to be comfortable and confident with.

Good summary, here is an easier method that i was told by an old team mate who kicked thousands of goals in the country leagues.

Pick out a face in the crowd and kick the ball to them. If you go to training and watch players kick to each other they hardly miss, same principle applies, forget the goals and pick out a target (face) and kick to them

Our players miss when kicking to each other too

We need more than one win now to avoid the spoon…unless Brisbane get totally smashed more than us in the losses and we go up in %…fat chance I’m afraid…but hoping like hell.

If you are an Essendon man it must hurt

Sure we lost to the basket case that is Brisbane but we should get pick 1 now. That’s some consolation…but imagine all that without the wooden spoon…and some pride intact.
