Not a great game but an ‘almost’ game for Laverne, showed a lot of athleticism that we lack so I am ok with some more chances here

There’s some talent there but I’m just not sure he going to make it. I think he should be developed as a wingman

Stop him from getting on the plane somehow!!

Cox and Moore are two of the most over-rated players in the AFL.

Too many players have gone past Zakka, he needs To go

Think you need to give Lav a bit of grace. You saw how terrible most of the team were Last week given the lack of match practice, and he hasn’t played properly in even longer. Makes Phillips game even more impressive though.

Great

Here’s to the true believers:

The softie below was actually correct. We won by more than two goals.

If you continue to bleat about the Caaarlton loss, thn clearly you aren’t chuffed enough.

Round 5 Essendon D. Collingwood.

The Good.

A hard-nosed, grinding win, where we had many contributors, while the Pies had more than their share of passengers. Essendon won this game at the selection table when they opted for Phillips over the statuesque Bellchambers. Phillips contested hard and provided us with a ruck presence that has been lacking for years. Plenty of winners and things to like. Sheil led the way all night, and was given solid support in the middle by Stringer who won more than his share of clearances from the middle including the first two of the third quarter. He was also the most damaging forward on the ground. Tippa provided plenty of tackling pressure without much reward, but he was busy anywhere he went on the ground. Ridley was masterful in defence, and Hooker blanketed Cox to the point where he will probably be dropped (again) next week. Hurley was also very solid all night in defence, he looked composed throughout the entire game. Snelling was hard at it and also steady while a couple of his foot passes into the forward line were works of art. A word on Ham, after a quiet night early, he provided lots of run and linking up in the last quarter. Langford continued to show his composure and continues to find ways to contribute to the team.

The Bad.

The chumps in the last quarter were a total, utter disgrace. It wasn’t just the decision against the Snelling tackle, which not only cost us a goal, but presented the Pies with a huge momentum shift. It was also the 2 blatant frees they missed at the other en, when Treloar threw the ball out of a tackle, etc. Luckily Phillips and Sheil made up for their incompetence. A couple of them need to be given a holiday after that inept display. Zaharakis also needs a holiday and l don’t mean a hub in SE Queensland. Pies forwards were ineffective most of the night. Stephenson kicked 3 but spent a lot of time on the bench or being the invisible man, but in the end that award was taken out by Hoskin – Elliott, while Mihocek and Elliott completed the trifecta. Fantasia was unsighted most of the night, he is shadow of his former self, looks like he has lost all the razzle he had. Laverde offered very little all night.
