It’s a broad timeframe ‘Pre-Christmas’. You’d hope he has some involvement in the November Drafts.
I’m sure he’s highly involved. I’d argue every decision about the list would have his involvement. And I’d also argue Dodoro is having little involvement in list decisions but highly involved in the processes, governance and approaches.
The strategy would remain as is leading to the draft. And I doubt it has changed through the year. Vozzo and Dodoro would just try and deliver it as best as possible within the recruitment team.
Rosa would be aware of the strategy.
I don’t think he’s going to have a major say until next season.
I am sure his insight into WA prospects will be leaned on though.
Just like we did with Bassett before drafting Orazio.
I’d rather drafting via a game of darts over anyone that’s been involved in our drafting process over the last few years.
I mean just look at the video earlier up in the thread where Dodoro talks about Francis maybe turning into a midfielder…
Whether no one spoke up over that level of stupidity or no one listened, it doesn’t matter. The end result is the same; we ■■■■■■■ suck.
We’ve been destroyed by the coteries and the clubs focus on being a “brand” rather than actually ■■■■■■■ winning.
Brad Scott is leading the list management decisions this year.
Dodoro is pretty much an administrator, who will do what he’s told.
His role will be important administratively and strategically. Not selecting players as such, more just navigating pitfalls, process, systems and avoiding errors / mistakes etc I’d think.
Rules and regulation guidance is the logical path forward, but the hate for Dodoro is such that people see any and every involvement as destined for disaster.
The problems at this club stem so far before Dodoros influence its cosmical.
Because no apparently he fkd up the bobby hill trade and we didn’t win all the grand finals.
That seems to be the common thread of people’s beliefs.
So Rosa’s basically screwed if he doesn’t nail the next 4 drafts, cause see drafting is what it’s all about.
Not development strength conditioning training coaching and decision making at board level which is why everything is so fkd in the first place.
No jackets is and always has been the issue.
Nah, he’ll be ok. It’ll still be Dodo’s fault until the 7 year statute of limitations is complete.
This year or next year?
At some point he needs to take responsibility for how many opposition clubs he’s ■■■■■■ off.
If clubs refuse to deal with Dodoro, because of how he has done business in the past…… I’m pretty certain that’s his fault.
You can twist the argument all you like, but that is business.
I don’t see Dodoro as the devil, like many. But I will agree with you that the main benefit of moving him on is the fresh air with the rest of the industry. He seemed a tough negotiator who generally won each trade, but that led to an opportunity cost. It was a short term approach that over the long term dissuaded other clubs from engaging with us.
1991 - 2022 National Draft Data ---- (No preseason, rookie listed players etc are included)
I’ve spent the day looking at National Draft Data. It is still a work in progress. Figures are from footywire. Needs review. Constructive feedback appreciated. Working on it tomorrow.
DISCLAIMER: This only offers a snapshot to potentially provide insights into club drafting performance. There are many many limitations which includes the 2016 season as an example.
National Drafted Player Game Averages at Drafted Club
If you are drafted to one of the following clubs via the National Draft, you will average the corresponding career games at that club based on 1991 to 2022 data.
Team | Average Games Played * |
---|---|
Hawthorn | 60.26 |
Geelong | 56.41 |
Essendon | 55.25* |
Richmond | 50.59 |
Collingwood | 48.19 |
- Only games played at drafted club are included.
- I have chosen not to adjust this figure to account for the suspensions in 2016.
Limitations
- Using player game team averages might not accurately reflect the quality of drafted talent.
- There might be variations in clubs’ strategies; some might provide more game opportunities to players with less potential, while others might have a more stringent or selective approach, focusing on high-potential talents.
Currently Active and Remaining AFL Team Listed Players Drafted via National Draft

- I have not adjusted these figures to account for 2016. I don’t believe it would have a material effect on averages since the majority of players either retired, were delisted or switched clubs that year.

I may have also put together other stuff, including Collingwood and Richmond figures, I’ll format and post it if it’s wanted.
IF YOU SPOT AN ERROR, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. PM or POST
Good stuff. The only challenge with games played is if you are bad at drafting then spuds tend to get more games than they deserve. It also doesn’t account for poor medical and development putting an artificial handicap on the player’s chances of success.
Long way to say we need to improve everything about the club.
If you intended to write that, well done!
[Except for the missing apostrophe].
More Coterie nonsense. All Coteries do is drink lots of booze and give money to the Club.
We have been destroyed by not have a good enough list.
Destroyed by not having a club that has any intestinal fortitude to stand up to AwFL when required.
EFC has been shafted for over a decade but easier to assert that it is all Dodoro’s fault.
Should have just kept Knights and Worsfold and Rutten and Scott - dumped Dodoro instead and several flags inevitably result.
Simple really.
According to Tom Morris on radio Matt Rosa beat out Adelaide Forward Line coach James Rahilly for the role. Geelong are apparently trying to lure him back the the club he played for and had a variety of coaching/development/off field roles at.
Adelaide highest scoring club this year under Matt as forwards coach. Interesting that in Rosa & Rahilly, It doesn’t appear that we targeted great experience for the role. Unless there’s another candidate we don’t know about.
doesn’t appear great experience in list management matters for club succes.
@SplitRound did a post about it.
Pretty sure aceman also said that James rahilly had applied for the role
