I wouldn’t mind it as part of a broader strategy to raise standards. If the whole football department has made a real commitment to drive higher standards, by all means bring in an older player or two from genuinely successful programs to help if they think it will help. My fear would be bringing someone like Luke Parker in and then taking him aside and saying “that’s not how we do things at Essendon” when he behaved like Luke Parker. Then you’ve just got an old guy on your list for no reason.
I think you might be right there’s something that good teams just have ingrained into them how do we bring that to Essendon is the million dollar question that even bomber couldn’t figure out.
In the two finals so far there has been times where a team mate has hit a player by foot in a better position and celebrated it just as hard as if they kicked a goal, that really isn’t a Essendon thing at all we have guys who just try have a ping from anywhere then shrug the shoulders when it sprays on the full
I have little doubt thats exactly what we would have done with Parker in the past. I still have a tiny bit of hope things internally are changing.
I sometimes think if you put every single swans player from this year into an Essendon jumper next year, we’d still somehow ■■■■ it up.
Imo if we are going to bring in senior players like Parker…… we need to get rid of senior players.
I’m working on the assumption that Sheil will be traded and Goldy retires. That will leave no players over 30 until Stringer (if he stays) turns 30 early next season. Our senior players are all 26-28.
But also consider a world where Shiel isn’t traded and Parker got the #10 off Weideman so they were locker neighbours.
Stringer is already 30.
Luke Parker would seem a fantastic acquisition. You’d get him in a playing/coaching role and then keep him on as an assistant coach if he has the nous and desire.
He’s hard nosed with just the right amount of mongrel. As much as we need small forwards, small backs, key forwards etc etc what we need above all else is to change the personality of the club and playing list.
More accurate, if you put them into Essendon jumpers 3 years ago, they’d be lucky to play finals.
Sheil won’t be traded will he? Doesn’t feel like there’s any interest in him. Pointless offloading him for pick 50.
Getting Parker would be terrific. Obtaining a great leader and intel from a great culture and program.
I’d happily take 50 for Shiel. Couldn’t pick 50 be used either to trade up, used as part of a trade for a player or to help match the Kako bid?
Shiel is going to the Saints. Apparently Ross the pest has been in his ear all year
I read the other day that they arent chasing him or werent interested anymore

I’m not sure why he wasn’t traded last year but I would think he’d want out asap. Playing him over Tsatas late in the year was full noise windowlicker.
That’s what I thought as well but chatting to a mate the other day he was pretty solid on it. We’ll see what happens I guess

Citation needed.
May aswell keep him get 15 games into a hope for a father son chance
Maybe to drive his price down…once trade period starts you will see all manner of players who have yet to declare they want to leave their club. Right now there will be a lot of chatter between managers and clubs

There’s interest by a number of clubs, clubs aren’t going to play their hand early.
We have rarely been a good team when he has been in it unfortunately, he’s gotta go.
