:hushed: Going a second listen,

For some reason reminded me of My Immortal by Evanescence (the origin piano only version).
Upon listening to that for the first time in years they’re actually not that similar but the song could definitely land itself in this thread!

Always something haunting about a piano piece with light strings behind it.

Plumb was going to quit the music scene after that album. while she was deciding she received a letter from a young lady who went to her concert. She said in the letter that she was close to the end and when Plumb sang that song it released something in her and she now wanted to live. Thankfully Plumb didn’t quit in the end, I really enjoy her music.

The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics. For those, who like me, had a close relationship with their father.

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Oh, crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got

You say you just don’t see it
He says it’s perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence

Say it loud (say it loud), say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late (it’s too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts

So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in
You may just be okay

So say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
Because it’s too late, it’s too late (it’s too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I wasn’t there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late (it’s too late) when we die (it’s too late when we die)
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So say it, say it, say it loud (say it loud)
Say it clear (come on say it clear)

They did a cover of this on ā€œThe Politicianā€ as well which I thought was lovely

Edit - @SMJ beat me to it.

A couple from this guy. Ry Cooder sits in beautifully in the second one.

It’s a really beautiful song.

The music in that series was definitely much better than the series itself!

Absolutely would say this is the most melancholy song of all for me - but not one to make you cry - I think there’s a difference.

For make you cry type sad, try Ruby’s Arms
by Tom Waits,

or his Kentucky Avenue, from about a 12 year old kid.

ā€œI’ll take the spokes from your wheelchair and a magpie’s wings and I’ll tie ā€˜em to your shoulders and your feet, I’ll steal a hacksaw from my dad and cut the braces off your legs, and we’ll bury them tonight out in the cornfieldā€.

I was interested, if not fascinated, to read some people here cry to Pink Floyd’s ā€œWish You Were Hereā€. To me, that’s my go to music for something uplifting and also to something to listen to when studying. I can play that v loud, study some info intently and suddenly realise I havent heard a thing. I’ll get to the end of the album and think…what…? Time’s gone in an instant and it’s like time has stood still.

For me it’s someone with a guitar, 3 chords and the truth…the meaningful story gets me every time
