The same thing happened for last night’s game. I suspect it is not just the club that drives the decision to make it fully ticketed.
Also, when the AFL don’t increase GA ticket prices for however many years in a row but costs go up, of course you will be tempted to switch to fully ticketed or sell reserved seats at way overs.
Theyre going to be embarrassed tonight, topic deck is half empty around entire stadium.
I have one son with just a flexi, I booked a standing at $7, no way I was paying an extra $40 for a seat. Just have him sit next to me in the reserved seat section…there is always a spare seat

The home club sets pricing and decides if it’s to be a designated reserved seating game. Essendon as the home team is in charge of what happens regarding dynamic pricing and upgrading to seat only.

I will repeat what I’ve said many times. Essendon’s commercial team is hopeless and they’ve miscalculated the turn up tonight.
You might not think it’s true but the home club makes decisions regarding whether a game is upgraded and sets home pricing under ‘dynamic pricing’ model.
I don’t believe that the organisation that runs everything with grounds, that liaises with public transport and police, that has the analytics team, wouldn’t be the ones making the call.
You don’t have to believe it but the home team makes the decisions. That’s the facts.
Well hopefully the membership department gets 1000 emails of complaint tomorrow. I’m writing one.

The club decides on home game pricing not the MCC / AFL. The club ultimately makes the decision. Essendon isn’t told by the AFL / MCC that the game will be upgraded and accept the prices of upgrade seats. Obviously the decision is made with input but the club ultimately is in control of how the game is sold.
PS: Whilst I’m not going to say straight out Pete Ryan is wrong, I think it would be wrong to suggest the call is out of Essendon’s hands and the domain of the MCC and AFL.
I called the club and they talked me through it. You open up the membership bit and log in through the same email you used in your membership registration but this time you use that to login to Ticketek and use the forgot password and it works.
Loved paying to upgrade my membership tix to a reserved seat for the whole family to turn up and see a rubbish game and 30,000 empty seats. Ridiculous decision by whoever is in charge. Just greedy and unnecessary.
I just need to know how to cancel my membership before next year.

Classless cash grab from the club. Making it a ticketed game was a digrace and price gouging.
So while the cost of living is so high, what does our grub club do? Purposely charge our members more money
There would legitimately be families out there who the cost of upgrading 3-4 people would have been top much so they would have stayed home just to see the too deck empty
Its really, really hard to support this dung heap as it is. These kinds of grub stunts make you want to tune out altogether
This club is run by cockheads. Do yourself a favour and stop going. Stop renewing memberships. Stop giving this club your hard earned money and go spend it on something wholesome
100% agree! No longer pay a cent to this sh-t show, don’t watch on kayo or fox. I don’t agree with the political views pushed by the club, it should stay clear of political movements and stop the activism. But then there’s the actual football this club has put out on the field over the last 20 years, it’s weak, gutless, soft and in general a complete and utter mess. The members are milked for every cent, sold bs hopium every preseason.
You can then add what the snake did last off season to the whole sh-t show.
