That’s true. But the historical accuracy (or not!) is not actually relevant to this particular complaint / argument.
You mean the bloke born in a stable to a mother who was a virgin !
Might not be a true story.
Threads get derailed all the time.
I think it’s just another symptom of poor fan engagement. In this case, we stand out of the pack by being one of only 2 clubs that went with an alternate greeting.
Back in my son’s Auskick days, I signed up with both the Saints and Melbourne, in order to get multiple free tickets for him to go to some live games, and I still get emails from them both, because it hasn’t annoyed me enough to remove myself, and I’m curious to see how they both engage.
IMO Melbourne has always had an edge in the genuine way they engage fans. I was most impressed when they reached out to their own fans, encouraging them to call the club anytime, toward the end of COVID lockdowns, as they recognised we’d all been through a tough time.
Several times, including changing the milestone year package for members this year, I feel Essendon has disappointed members, with less than exemplary communication and engagement.
They also had a mix up at the sponsor dinner earlier this year that resulted in many sponsors, keen fans who hand over large sums of money in order to have even more engagement with their club, being charged for drinks that should have been complimentary.
It makes me sad. It’s another area we seem to be behind our competition. I love my club. Even in this extended period of poor on field results, I hope for more. And when they also get the off field stuff wrong, sometimes it stings a bit. I’m not offended, or mad. But I am disappointed. Again.
