Just draft Pickett anyway it’s only a finger. They wouldn’t have played him in the 1’s straight up anyway. Give him 8-10 weeks of gruelling fitness training. 3-4 games at the end of the year to give the fans something to get excited about.
Knoll, Pickett and Moreen/Tippungwuti it is then.
(Edit - is there any requirement that msd picks have to be male? Surely not, equal opportunity and all that.)
ESSENDON has opened up a second list vacancy ahead of Monday night’s NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
After losing spearhead Joe Daniher (groin) and reigning best and fairest Devon Smith (knee) last week, the Bombers will be one of four clubs to carry dual selections.
People hoping for the club to take 3 players tonight are in for disappointment - we’ll only have 2 picks, not sure whether it was Daniher or Draper who weren’t put on the inactive list as the AFL only announced that we’d placed Smith on the inactive list, no mention of the other 2. Presumably whomever it is they’re been kept aside to be put on LTI once Mutch is ready to return so McNiece can stay elevated.
“North Melbourne met with Tipungwuti last week and has warmed to athletic 195cm Werribee forward Jake Riccardi , who has booted 13 goals in seven games in the VFL this season.”
That’s madness. It is rd 10 and Mutch is nowhere near ready to return. By the time he is ready, it will be late season, and at that point, we can put whoever is injured at that time on the LTI list for the remainder of the season. It would be a very happy (and unlikely) situation to find ourselves in, that at around rd 15, or whenever Mutch is ready, we have no injuries that might last the rest of the season. At worst, McNiece goes back to category B and can’t play seniors. Not a big hardship.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that the AFL cahnged the rookie rules a while back. No need for rookies to be elevated anymore and someone placed on the LTI list. They have an opportunity to play whenever the club feels they are ready.
Having said that, I don’t know if there are different rules for cat B rookies but I wouldn’t have thought so, they are just a different allowance for list management reasons.
They did make a lot of changes to the rookies rules, but the aspect you’re talking about is only relevant to category A rookies. Category B rookies still need a LTI to be elevated.
Other changes they made at the same time was to reduce what qualifies as a “LTI” from 8 weeks to 6, and make any changes completely reversible, thus you get weird stuff like Collingwood putting Lynden Dunn on LTI to elevate Jack Madgen on Thursday, however this morning they’ve returned Dunn to the senior list, and they’ve placed Wells on LTI to elevate Madgen instead.
@redbull - Probably true, but the AFL never officially announced anything, thus the AFL reporters know every player that is on the inactive list at every club bar our 2nd pick.
