Middle East Discussion

So you don’t like the CURRENT Israeli government because they allegedly assassinated some terrorists ? Previous Israeli governments were ok for you? What is it about the current Israeli government you don’t like? I think most if not all Israeli governments have made pre emptive strikes against terrorist states and assassinations of terrorists. I don’t think that’s a new thing under the current Israeli government. Can I ask @bigallan are you supportive of the PLO and Hamas ?

You can be against Hamas and PLO, be supportive of Israel and be against the CURRENT Israeli government.

Did you know you can dislike the actions and policies of the Israeli government for their treatment towards Palestinians without supporting Hamas and/or PLO?

Beat me to it

Yes - I was asking BigA’s view

Yes 100% agree- I was asking Big A. Maybe I read too much into his/her comments; but they seemed critical of the current Israeli government for killing alleged terrorists in a counter terrorism raid in Jenin. There was no mention of any other policies that he/she didn’t like - only a reference to alleged terrorists being killed by the Israelis which has happened under all Israeli governments not just the current government

She has contributed extensively in this thread. I understand that you may not have read her earlier posts.

Understand and I’ll go back and do that :ok_hand:

Don’t bother. That poster has form.

No need to be like that @bigallan ……we may not agree on everything but I’m never rude or disrespectful to you ……I said I would go back and read your earlier posts

Sometimes you ask leading and disingenuous questions of Big A.

Palestine is a complex and vexing issue. I personally support Israel and its people and their right to exist, but the actions of its Government over many years are despicable. I strongly support Palestinians and their efforts to forge a Nation, and do not see PLO/Palestinian Authority/Hamas as terrorists at all. Some actions are regrettable but in context are understandable.

So do you.

Really? Very strange as that is what they are classed as by all governments (not PA, the reborn and political version of the PLO who were terrorists until Clinton).

Thanks for sharing @Bacchusfox ……I support Israel and their right to defend their country against many that want to destroy it. I also believe in a two state solution and that Israel must compromise to get Palestine to the negotiating table (and vice versa). Peace is long overdue and I would love to see it. I’ll be traveling to Israel next year and when I go to Jerusalem I’d much prefer to be there and not be on edge the whole time. I know next year is too soon to hope for a resolution but I’m hoping anyway

Maybe I just consider them like others over the years fighting invaders in their Country.

I wonder if Israel was not so close to us and had a socialist government, what US view would be; freedom fights like the IRA maybe.

Israel is a wonderful place to visit and Jerusalem is mythical. I have been there when they were fighting with neighbours and never felt under threat. Israelis are very confident people.

The two state solution is long gone because Israel has occupied so much territory in the region - My understanding is the notional size of Israel is four times bigger since the 1968 war - Both sides will have to learn to live together in one state.

Hamas is not fighting against someone who took over their country. Israel left Gaza and gave the land back to the PA. Hamas then stole an election and have controlled it with an iron fist ever since. They take all aid money and funnel it into terrorist activities while they let their people starve and use them as human shields. If the PA could get back control and put down Hamas then the blockade of Gaza by both Egypt and Israel would probably end. While ever Hamas run that area you can forget about it.

And that sums up why Israel is very hesitant to surrender up land for a two state solution. What if Hamas/Hezbollah or someone else then gains control? Surrounded on all sides by those wishing them dead and pushed into the sea forever.

That has to be addressed if the world is serious about peace in that area. But then again the world cannot do anything with the rest of the ME which is a mess and powder keg as well.

Look homeward angel

Back to Iran: there are some reports that IRGC officers have been assassinated as well.
