Midfield Trade Targets

I’ve heard Acres is a target…

Not sure how Duryea releases McGrath. If we are looking for a rebounding defender then we should be looking at McKenzie from GC. He was very good a few years back but like much of GC’s list has not developed as expected. I think the talent would still be there & he’s prime age for his best footy. NO idea if we could get him for the price a player who’s played 14 games in 2 years should command (3rd rounder at best) but if we can I would make him a target especially if there are no underlying injury issues. We should have a lot of list spots to fill so a McKenzie type seems smarter than 6-8th round draft picks in what others have said is a shallow draft.

That wouldn’t be hard for Myers

Hind to play the McGrath role and McG to slot into the Midfield???

Miles isn’t a bad player, I’d be ok if he was already at the club but I don’t want to trade for him.

We do need to target some inside mids who can kick though, they’re the ones who really turn games (ala Jobe in 2012). Where we find one though remains to be seen!

Miles is ■■■■.

Unless we can find a contracted player willing to move maybe we should offload whatever players we were planning and target draft picks.

What about Ben McNiece? Is he considered a rebound defender or more of a lock down? I seem to recall he looked OK at AFL level and was pretty quick before injury.

He’s more of a Baguley type-Lock down small defender. I think it would be more useful, as I stated above to look at Hind from the VFL as a rebounding type defender off half back, he’s quick and looks to have good skills.

Hawthorn have #32, #42, #60 and #79, so how the ■■■■ are they getting that done?
Edit: And GWS’s first pick is #23, so…it’s not like before when they had four picks in the first round and could go, yeah, whatevs…

You would’ve got on like a house on fire with the Carlton guy sitting behind me in round 20 - he was saying “gee that Myers bloke is going to be a star once he matures and gets over his injuries.” Slight complication was that i think his comments were dripping with sarcasm.

Or like a Rugby Union scrum half. But that’s the direction the Sydney Swans took the game in a decade ago — and that’s where it still is.

And what if our main extractor is only 179cm or 180cm tall (5’11" in the old money)? Since when was height an added advantage when you’re getting down and dirty ? Most tall blokes are pretty useless at ground level (except for JoeD).

Back to the game change wrought by the Swannies:

The classic Union scrum half is short to medium height, nuggety build and has lightning reflexes and a grip like iron for extracting the ball from the scrum. Once the ball is extracted, he also doubles as a fast running attacker…

Who fills that bill ? — only Andrew McGrath.

Stop looking, fellas — we’ve got the inside mid we need already.
