People need to realise that pure inside midfielders with average foot skills are not going to be brought to this club. Jobe Watson will be the last one under a Worsfold coached team.
Worsfold has been clear that he will only play players that offer both inside/outside options.
He has defended the team’s ability to win the contested football, and said it not really an issue. He is more focussed on pressuring turn overs, and moving the ball quickly through the corridor. Our young midfield (Merrett, Parrish, McGrath & Heppell) are all players that offer both inside/outside options.
You could argue that Clarke is exactly that. It will be interesting to see how his career unfolds.
I must have missed this memo jonov?
Why do we assume this?
And why does David Myers get a game?
David Myers might not be quick, but he gets to the outside regularly. He was used as a half back flanker for the begining of his career, before Knights used him as a KPP.
IMO his foot skills are pretty good, he just needs to learn that his kicks don’t need to either be 15 meter chips or 65 meter bombs. It’s almost like a fast bowler who only bowls bouncers or yorkers. He needs to just hit his targets. 2 years out of the game, so he has abit of catching up to do with game sense.
Clarke will turn into an inside beast—if he even becomes just competent with his foot skills, he’ll be a keeper
I don’t agree with this at all. David Myers was drafted as a half back and knights used him a couple of times as a tall but generally as a flanker and he has been and still is an absolute truck in that position. His outside work in general is woeful. The only thing Myers offers is inside contest work. Also he is a very poor user of the ball, horrible handball and very ordinary kick outside his ability to hit it long.
Myers foot skills would be near on the worst in our current 22
Funnily enough, he’s going to be very important Saturday. If he gets 5-6 clearances and touches it 20+ times it’ll be important. Their not gonna play bird or hocking in that role it’s pretty clear so I hope Dave sets himself for this. Our infield mid stocks suck so if he can contribute with the above it’ll help a LOT
Been pushing Nicks barrow on here for a while as some may of noticed.
Before putting a line through his afl prospects just consider that this is his first year in and around a professional footy environment, still has to work as a tradie during the week.
Also, this is a guy who has been playing seniors footy around the Ballarat region since he was 15yr old, he’s quick he’s smart and he’s hard as nails, no question on him being able to cop a big hit.
Halfback flanker that has leadership qualities and can move into the midfield, Bring Him In.
Especially as he may be able to cover McGrath down back.
I disagree about Myers footskills.
His decision making is the issue. He’s been selecting the wrong options. Something that was likely going to happen after 2 years without playing much football
He’s rusty as all ■■■■, barely gets 80% time on ground.
His decision to kick the ball higher in the air than meters gained forward is the issue
I’m hoping @saladin’s theory that the returning midfielders will need a second pre-season to get up to speed is correct.
I reckon Myer’s could still have his career best footy ahead of him. Plus hopefully Heppell and Colyer are back to their best next season.
I legit think natural progression of Parish and getting McgRath into the middle will make us a better midfield next year than this year.
So as much h as getting another mid is critical I think finding a player to release McGrath is just as important. Hopefully either Morgan comes good (excellent game today) or I would like us to pick up Taylor Duryea.
Duryea? Interesting, I personally don’t see him as a rebounding defender. More a negating type player.

I agree on the midfield. Plus Hepp spending more time in there.
Duryea looks like he’s 50/50 on kissing or stabbing someone.

He does look spookily like Ramsay Bolton.
Mates that barrack for Hawthorn call him Turnover Taylor. Think he butchers it under pressure.
Sign Bird 2+ years
Sign Howlett 2+ years
Convince Jobe to go round again just like we did with Jason Winderlich
