Yeah seen all of this, not really all that surprised, Greinke wouldn't be the only player not all that keen miss the last 15 spring games and fly half way around the world, he's just the only one honest enough to say it. Out of all players it can be argued that the spring is the most important for starting pitchers, as they generally set a timetable from the day they arrive to their final start to be up to 100% going into opening day.
As someone who is going to one of the games, Greinke's feeling about Australia aren't exactly high on the list of things that I care about.

Why is there such a big chunk out of the timetable?

They play 4 games over about 6 days, don't they?
I'm not sure, must be allowing them a lot of time either side of the games for travel and adjusting back to the time zone. I was surprised to see them missing so many games when i read that last week.
Think the two leadup games against Team Australia are on about 7pm locally and game one is also at about 7pm, the Sunday game is on at 1:15pm though so probably a little better timeslot for you DM.

How often would a guy pitch anyway? 1 game a week? 2 or 3 for relievers?
i'm sure their recovery won't be *as* good if they're on the plane, but don't really see why it's *that* much worse.

Starters go every 5 days, they usually come into camp are be ready to toss down about 50 pitches by the first spring game. They gradually buld this up and by the end of the spring games be up around the 100 pitch mark. Given they will cut spring 3 starts early the two likely starters here Kershaw and Greinke will probably only be able to 70-80 max in the opening games. They have to try and make up the time they've missed then before opening day in the US, or they will still be on a modified program for the first week or so of the season.
Baseball players are crazy about routine, this goes for just about everything they do, they've been tought from the time they've been drafted, some at 16 years old. This is why I'm positive there would be a heap of players not comfortable with breaking their yearly routine of spring training and coming over here. That said 99% of them are real pros and will suck it up and get on with playing as they know things like this are just part of the deal if you want to be a pro.
Ian Kinsler has unleashed one of the all time great ex-employee tirades. The ex-Ranger, now Tiger said that he hopes his old club "goes 0-162" and called their main exec a "sleaze ball".
Josh Hamilton apparently happy that Texas fans have a new ex-player to hate!
Sounds like you Braves will sign an extra starter tomorrow just in case, Ervin Santana heading to Atlanta. No news on $$ or years yet, Will cost you a draft pick though.

$14.1m, but with Medlen doubtful and Beachy still sore, and Floyd coming off Tommy John, looks like Wood, Hale, Teheran will back up Garcia and Santana.

Beachy for Tommy John too, it looks like. And Minor, Floyd and Santana will struggle to start the season.
