Mlb 2015

A J Burnett signed with the Phils for $16m.

I looked at it, expecting it to be a 3-year deal, maybe, just maybe 2 years...but it's one year. I was stunned.

He told the Pirates he was think of retiring, changed his mind so they offered him $12m, Phillies came over the top with $16m.

No way he's a $16m player. I'm not even sure he's worth $8m.

Anyhow...f**k the Phillies.

Derek Jeter has announced 2014 will be his final season.
Farewell captain and future hall of famer.

Sad day, will be sorely missed thats for sure

One of our greatest. Will definitely be honoured in Monument Park. Captain Clutch.

His fWAR was 4.0 last season and 3.0 the year before, suggestion is that currently in free agency it will cost you between $6-7M per win. He's projected to be worth about 2.5-3.5 WAR this season coming so number about right, plus you always pay a little more for a one year deal. Don't get my wrong though Ruben Amaro is one of the worst GM's in baseball but this isn't even close to top of him list of worst moves.

Not a big story but but something you don't see very often, back end starter for the Red Sox Ryan Dempster has advised the team he won't pitch in 2014, saying he doesn't feel physically up to it and wants to spend more time with his kids. He was going in to the final year of his deal with the Sox which would have earned him $13.25M.

Can say I can remember seeing a player walk away from a contract, not of that size anyway.

Sox will now have a 2014 payroll of $176M.

Craig Kimbrel signed a $42m over 4 year  deal to stay in Atlanta. I couldn't see how they could possibly let him go, although it will be interesting if he continues to be as unhittable as he was often last season.

Girardi has named Brian Roberts will be the Yankees' everyday 2B...pity he's struggled to get on the field since 2009.

O's have signed Ubaldo to a 4 yr $48M contract, Ubaldo in the in AL East, yeah I don't see that ending well. The guy has been terrible for a few years now and has managed to get this deal on the back of some ok pitching in the back half of last year. One bonus is the average $ per year is $12M which is probably mid rotation money, not sure he'll even be that though.

I'm not big on giving relievers long term deals, their level of performance historically fluctuates more then any other position. I like this deal though, him and Chapman as safe as you can get out of the pen.

Braves have now extended Andrelton Simmons' contract for 7 years worth $55m or so, heavily back-ended.

Average of less then $8 a year playing the the most valueable defensive postion at the highest level out of anyone in the majors, this is a great deal by the Braves. He'll probably pass the $55M worth of value before this deal is even half finished.

Who takes dempsters spot as he was a starter.

Go lackey, peavy, buchholz, lester and ??

Doubrant will take the last spot, they also just signed Capuano who isn't great but looks like their plans for him are probably be a backup and do some long work out of the pen. Webster is the next guy in line I'd say followed by Ranaudo or Barnes, they have plenty of depth in lot of areas, farm system is considered top 3.

If you're interested other guys of note, there is catcher Blake Swihart who we'll probably see in 2015, Cecchini who they are calling the new Youk (OBP .469 at High A then .420 at AA in 2013) probably on the same timetable as Swihart.

Capuano the starter from Dodgers?

Seen Cecchini around on the preseason vids

Nelson Cruz one-year $8m with Baltimore. Baltimore would have to give up a first-round pick because Cruz refused his offer from Texas, but the O's had already given up their first rounder to Cleveland for Ubaldo Jimenez, so just a second-round pick.

Andrew Bailey minor league deal with the Yankees. Another traitor from the Red Sox.

Wouldn't exactly call Bailey a traitor, he only pitched 44 innings in 2 years in Boston and spent most of his time on the DL, seemed like a good guy though so hope he can get his physical issues sorted.

In other news it appears the Angles are close to agreeing on a contract extention for Trout, reports are 6 year 150M, would buy out his Arb years and a few FA years too. His first 2 season are as good as anyone who has ever played the game in it's history, so it wouldn't be a surprise for him to get $20M in his first year of Arb. Talk had been that Trout would be the first player to sign a contract north of $300M when he finally hit free agency in a few years, looks like the Angels are trying to avoid have to sign that deal.

Yep same guy, also pitched for the Mets and Brewers.

Tough one for Trout...does he back himself to keep improving? or take the guarantee early?

Looks like Pujols' injuries came when he pocketed the huge dollars.

I'd just regard anyone who played for the Yankees after the Sox a traitor.

Looks like Greinke can't wait to get to Sydney!

"I would say there is absolutely zero excitement for it. There just isn't any excitement to it," Greinke told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "I can't think of one reason to be excited for it."

Those Dodgers.
