Simple so he gets more at bats, over the course of a season a hitter at the top of order will get 50-60 more plate appearances then the guy at 8th. So if you have someone who has finally worked it out and gets hits every night don’t you want him to get more chances to get more hits or walks?

You’ve got an argument with Xander not with Betts though, at the moment JBJ has an OBP of .409, Betts OBP is .318, it’s not even close. This isn’t a big deal, they are scoring a tone of runs at the moment, this is just smart lineup construction to maximise the opportunity to get guys on base and score runs.
When it’s all said and done I think Betts and JBJ will end with very similar seasons.
