4 weeks is BS, especially for the act. Wasn’t a diesel style hay maker etc.
Gone too far and not going to help umpires gain respect imho. Just leads to resentment and frustration.
I hope the decision is overturned… worth 1 week, maybe 2 at the most. For example how can that be worth DOUBLE the suspension give for Yarran punching Chappy in the head? Or Hodge elbowing a bloke or Lewis smashing someones ear?

I get the need to protect the umpires. I do. But Minson wasn't threatening, aggressive or abusive.
Now tell me again what happened to Clarko when he abused an umpire at an under age game, presumably surrounded by a whole lot of impressionable kids. That sort of thing is an ugly blight on the game and puts a serious dent in the number of people who would stick their hand up to officiate in any capacity at those games.
There is no common sense in the AFL boy’s club. Minson’s ‘offence’ was worth no more than a fine.
I think the point we are all missing here is- “why would a player who knows they are not supposed to touch an umpire, touch an umpire?”
He knows there are ramifications, he knows that it is frowned upon and mainly he knows that people have been suspended for it. Was there any point in him touching the umpire?
Putting aside the suspension duration, the umpire being soft, the VFL trying to make sure people know where they are and the fact that his coach thought it was a non-issue, why did a player do something he knows he is not supposed to do?
If you drive through a red light it doesn’t matter if you were doing the speed limit or you were speeding and it definitely wouldn’t matter if there was nobody around.
Apparently there are two incidences from Minson touching an umpire, one where he appeared to actually push an umpire over (from behind) and the other where he rushed into an umpire after a goal while the ump was trying to get into position.

LOL
I didn’t think anything could outdo Mick v Fark Carlton but if they actually extend his ban based on two incidents(one off the ball) this would be the greatest thing ever!
