Ah, sorry. It’s a photo book by Glen E Friedman.
Loved Rip it up
Please kill me’s a good’n
Although this is only about NY (and not just about punk) this is a great read
Same. That might be my fave of the lot.
I really like Frank Turner and he makes Fat Mike sound like a genius the way he does this song. It’s heart wrenching. And the songs NOFX written by Frank are like a list of songs that your fav Fat wreck band forgot to record. Particularly, listening to Fat mike sing The ballad of me and my friends makes it sound like a great lost Lagwagon song.
I just listened to this brilliant 8 part podumentary on Spotify About the Clash.
It’s presented by Chuck D of Public Enemy.
I thought I knew a lot about the Clash… apparently not. It was fascinating listen.
“Hang in there, If you believe that what you’re doing is unique. Otherwise give up and sound like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.”
Joey Ramone
Dang, I don’t use Spotify.
where are they from?
Melbourne I think.
Only a few tracks from them, but it’s got everything I look for in music.
My definition of Punk is probably a little looser than most, I see it as more of ideology towards music than a style, so with that pompous sentence out of the way i’ll go with;
- The Wipers
- Sonic Youth
- Husker Du
- The Replacements
- Fugazi
- Wire
- Minutemen
- Mission of Burma
- Beat Happening
- The Mekons
With special mention to The Fall, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Agent Orange, Suicidal Tendencies, Buzzcocks & the D!cks who are probably responsible for the greatest A/B side punk single of all time.
Wow, that’s awesome! I had to look him up and read a bit about him - was he from our scene back in the day?
Yeah, he’s a Warnambool/Portland kid. I think he was in the ska band Fieldtrip for a bit and then he sang in a band called As Hope fades, the core group of that band went on to do a techy death band called the Abandonment, and then Rob who played bass started Encircling sea, who are excellent if you’re into that shoe gaze/death metal deaf heaven style of things.
