MUSIC GENRE - Punk - TOP 10 bands

I’ve been flogging the new record from a band called Red City Radio. It’s got some moments that sound a bit like if the hold steady were an Epitaph band. Maybe not to many people’s taste but I’m enjoying the nostalgia value.

For some reason the intro reminded me of this

Not sure if these guys are still together. They never garnered a tonne of attention, but this tune always got me up and firing

Back in the day I used to take the train to CBD from Ballarat, just to buy CD’s. stopping by Missing Link and JB Hifi. We had limited range, especially punk albums at our local store at Leading Edge. Obviously there was nothing at Sanity.

I remember picking up Red Tape from the onsale bin for $10. Never heard of them. Loved it. They’re a communist punk band. And just the thing you need when your 17 years old.

That’s about as good as it gets right there mate, cracking list.

For me I’d squeeze in Dead Kennedys and Bad Religion but won’t even dishonor any the bands in Ur list with mentioning who is drop out.

Seen them twice, epic!

I like the punk

Sum 41
Area 57
Green Day
Good Charlotte
Blink 182
Rancid
Simple Plan
AFI
Placebo
Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Never heard these guys until recently. Circa 1988. Singer went on to head up Dropkick Murphy’s.

Not enough Bad Brains. I always knew of these guys, but never really ‘got’ them until recently. But the tracks still hold up well after all these years.

That narrows it down to about 1/3 of the east coast punk scene!!

Bad Brains demoed and re-recorded a bit, and certain tracks can sound great on one release and not so good on another, so it’s fun working out which session has a track you like sounding best to you. It’s weird they did Rock For Light with Ric Ocasek.

Lot of good punk in Melbourne, lot of girls in bands too which is great to see.

Currently loving this track from Dicklord

This is the Black Flag reunion that we deserve. It’s a shame that Greg Gin couldn’t pull his head out of his a*rse.

This is clip is insane. I was hoping that they’d get to Australia…. Just fire.

The best version I ever saw was Primate doing a set of black flag covers on a Monday night in a packed to overflowing Whole Lotta Love bar at the tippy top of Lygon St. the place holds maybe 40people and it was barely breathing room.
