Fair enough, I don’t like a few of the bands you’ve listed either. I don’t think anyone will be offended
I hate 99.9% of music that don’t have Power Chords……. And Proud of it!
One of the greatest bands. But not Punk in any way, imo.
I guess in the same way that people call Patti Smith ‘punk’. Simply because of who she was hanging out with and that her husband was in the MC5.
I’m not a big fan of the cure, but I imagine that their biggest influences would be The Damned.
One of my earliest gigs as a mid teen was seeing The Meanies and the Hard On’s at the Punters Club (now Bimbo’s) on Brunswick street in ~92. Changed my life!!
I’m always confused with punk v’s post punk.
My top 10 has to include Fugazi, At the drive in, the Germs, Dead Kennedy’s, Sex Pistols, the clash, nirvana (tracks like Very Ape, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, Milk it, Territorial Pissings are clearly punk), the meanies, the hard on’s & the cosmic psycho’s.
Hearing “Gangerous” and then going to see The Meanies play in the alley outside Augogo in ‘92, was the similar life-altering moment for me.
Cure are 100% new wave in Goth clothing and makeup
I always felt that the best Punk rock in Australia, also had that Aussie pub rock sound. It’s what I’ve appreciated more as I’ve gotten older.
Cosmic Psychos, Bored, X, Powder Monkeys, The Stems, Lime Spiders, Beasts of Bourbon, Front End Loader, Peep Temple, 6 ft Hick, etc.
Fucken loved these guys. Was always drawn to their gigs. This was pretty typical. Low key crowd, meanwhile the band just shredding.
Always loved Nolan on guitar.
Pity these guys were all on heroin. It never ends well.
I worked with a guy in the 90’s that was a roadie for them, The Powder Monkeys, that is
Have a listen to Bad//Dreems
That brand definitely has a lot more like-ability among the Australian public, there’s some banger bands out there that have more of that American punk rock sound with Aussie flavour in it that don’t get any where near the amount of recognition they deserve
for example
This EP and their 2020 album ‘Hot and Flustered’ are absolute bangers from start to end - basically a grittier version of Amyl and the Sniffers
These guys were great in the early thousands
They were in-line with the time period when Celtic punk rock (Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, The Real Mackenzie) was really coming through, I believe they’re from Tasmania?
Couple of mates from school were in this band over the years, great drinking music! (Defo from vic) Gtown?
Vic band for sure. Played some shows with them, great band
Not sure how punk I’d consider them, but great band. I still give them a listen every so often.
Should have been bigger.
cold meat are fun. My band Ubik did a split with them…they did a Siouxsie & The Banshees cover and we did an X cover.
Very cool, nice share. I don’t get anything out of Amyl, but this is great riot grrl punk.
