Make a meal of some bright eyed kid…

I can’t find this cover anywhere (You Are The Everything) can you link me?

Not a cover.
Just listen to the album, apart from Pop Song and Stand.

Yeah I know the album and love the song. I thought you said The Dream Academy had covered it and I was curious.

Dream Academy covered The Smiths Please, Please, Please.
And it’s beautiful.

I’ll give it a listen. That Dream Academy album is cheesy but underrated. Smiths b-sides were as good as their a-sides.

To be specific…they actually covered the whole song. That’s not so great.
It’s their instrumental version that’s beautiful.

Let me be very clear.
I hate The Smiths
I think they are overrated, and sickenly fey.

Apart from these greatest songs of all time which are awesome.

There Is A Light Which Never Goes Out
How Soon Is Now
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

So, apart from those four A+++ songs and a few other A+ songs like Stop Me If You Think That You’ve Heard This One Before, they’re complete rubbish.

What about The Headmaster Ritual?! Or Hand In Glove? Or That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore!? Or Reel Around The Fountain? Or Still Ill!?

Morrissey is sickingly fey, but I never understood that criticism of them musically. Marr is just a riff machine.

One of quite a few A+‘s.
The rest are why I hate The Smiths.
Including Ask, This Charming Man, and Panic!

Fey dross.
They can be so bad, and then so good.

I didn’t like The Smiths at the time at all. Given all the hype, I figured they were just another over-rated band the British press were blowing their loads over. What little I bothered to listen to hadn’t impressed me.

In the mid-90s I had a messy break-up with “the one that got away” (aka “the one I completely f’ed things up with”). At the time I’d bought a Smiths Best Of for a couple of bucks from a bargain bin somewhere.

Something about it resonated with my melancholy mood. I would sit stewing in my misery, listening to that CD on repeat.

I still like a lot of the tracks, but haven’t listened to it much for years. It shouldn’t come into it, but it doesn’t help that Morrissey is such an insufferable ■■■■ these days…

There Is A Light… will always be a classic though…

Is it bad that I really like Viva Hate by Morrissey?

Not as bad as Education In Reverse.

Love and Affection: Joan Armartrading Classics (1975-1983). Many great songs. Underrated.

Mark Knopfler in a WB singlet.

Started to run out of clothes on holidays over in Chch, NZ. Needed a hoodie, ended up in a skate shop and having a good chinwag with the guy in the store cos people are a bit more open and have more time here, he had a Bauhaus tshirt on. Always thought the seriousness of Gothy type stuff was a bit of a cheesy parody of itself but still, I’ve enjoyed quite a few things from afar and keep coming back to this one, so atmospheric and I think a genuine masterpiece about addiction. To top it off it ticks the box of that hilarious 80’s goth video cliche of running through a forest.
