We kept sacking keyboardists.
The sax player sacked us.
(hate that…Overkill was one of my faves).
Bassists were a revolving door.
We were very nearly called, ‘Where’s Barry?’

While I’m on this…
I would love some…opinion on this. Considered opinion.
Major bone of contention…
I…love…a refrain from another song at the end of the song.
It’s a thing.
People do it.
At the end of Plush…I’d sing…‘you’re gonna wait fat boy, fat boey, wait ‘til tomorrow…’
And then it would end immediately on the…derr nurr….nurrrrrrr.
And I thought it was friggin’ awesome.
It had the lyrical link…
Drummer was like, nah it’s dumb.
Bassist was like, if you want to do Tomorrow, we can do that…we can segue into it if you want…
No!
I didn’t want.
Guitarist was…it’s in the wrong key and I’m all about it.
Stopped doing it. Stupid drum and bass…
Edit: look…or not.
I did a double last night. 3pm to 6am.
I’ve had three hours sleep today and there has been libation.
I’m completely aware that I may be being a ■■■■.
Like I said: Silly people.
I was “sacked” from the band (of which four of five members simultaneously left and formed a new band) in part because I refused to stop singing the outro from “No Aphrodisiac” at the end of one of our (my) originals.
It worked perfectly and rounded out a song that was, honestly, just lacking something at the end.
Guitarists. Pffffft.
Edit: Bugger it, I’ve also imbibed and I’m feeling self indulgent. I never share my stuff but this is the song that I threw the Whitlams / Beecroft silliness on the end of.
Warning: It’s… not overly great.
I am happy to talk music performance with anyone, anytime, ■■■■ or not.
I think the crux of that song is amazing.
I have many notes, which I won’t bore you with.
Had an acquaintance who would write off any sort of poor behaviour with…’oh well, fortunes of war’, so that was cool.
Definitely an interesting track.
Thank you for sharing.
New Clapton song, from a new live concert.
Eric Clapton’s intimate concert filmed in London in front of a small audience in December 2023. Eric’s set included “Tears In Heaven,” “Layla,” “River Of Tears,” “Got To Get Better In A Little While,” and a very special version of George Harrison’s “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” featuring a guest appearance from Dhani Harrison. This will also include a brand-new studio track and video entitled, “Prayer of a Child.” The proceeds will be donated in aid of the children in Gaza.
So, my last piece of self indulgence… This was the first thing I ever properly “wrote”: sat down with guitar and pen and paper and blurted out my feelings, as tortured artist types do upon encountering minor inconveniences in life.
The version that appears on the EP was not like how we played it, ever. The guitarist (seeing a theme here)? insisted on playing the constant finger-picked riff and he just didn’t feel it. At all.
He also insisted on using his new Martin that he’d just acquired, despite the fact that it was faulty and the pickup was shot, so it was recorded raw with a mic. Normally I’d be all for that, except you can hear his dragging, scratching playing style, his heavy nasal breathing and the farking metronome on the finished track.
I spent 2 hours in the studio flawlessly playing it and then trying to show him how to at least not completely butcher it but it was to no avail. He was insistent that he would be the one recorded on the EP (as if it was going to be some historical record of importance down the track).
There were also a bunch of very nice harmony bits that weren’t finished because we wasted the studio time.
I might re-record it one day, if and when I get over it.
Guitarists.
That was apparent.
Been marvelling again at Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned. Great song after great song, a range of styles worked in, but this time was thinking how fast it comes out of the gate with the first two tracks.
Was there anything this galloping that had hit the album charts before? Motörhead maybe. Bad Brains would blow it away for pace the next year as they exploded in the underground, but this feels like ground zero for speedy melodic punk that would be so prevalent in the 90s.
OUCH!!!
Saw them a few years ago, one of the best acts around.
New album sucks though.
Tomorrow night Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter at Village cinemas for the first time in Dolby Atmos. Once in the dark and a second time with audio visualiser. ![]()
Got my first listen of Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter last night at Village cinemas. Got two listens straight through. One in the dark and one with visuals and lyrics.
It’s a banger from start to finish. Pure
.
Can’t wait for official release on Friday.
The cinema sound was so horrible. Can’t wait to hear it for real.
Think it could fit straight in between yield and binaural
Disappointing to hear the sound was off. I was at Villge at FGate here in Melbourne. Thought it could’ve been louder at first however I think it sorted itself out. Overall a cracking album!
