Tame Impala’s recent material is just chart-chasing dreck, but even their earlier critically-lauded “more psychedelic stuff” (using the term extremely loosely) was bog ordinary. He’s as bad as Noel Gallagher for nicking stuff off other people…
They haven’t ever really moved the needle for me, though equally they don’t infuriate me like that pompous twat from Coldplay…
Let It Happen is one of the best and most interesting songs of the last [s]10[/s] eleven years, for mine.
And Elephant is fun. I like to think of it as taking the ■■■■ out of that whole lofi, stoner rock thing st the time, but it’s cool enough without that.
I don’t love Tame Impala, but I think their high points are pretty…pretty good.
New Charlie Parr and Jimi records out this weekend. Charlie’s new one is really good. The Hendrix record is the 1st Berkeley show from 1970. Its an up and down gig with some stuff that’s as good as it gets and some stuff where he’s just plodding along.
Spent the weekend in the garden listening to both.
