Nah, we do this all the time, reclamation projects on the buy low. Pop really likes working with a guy who’s career is on the brink, Sjax, Diaw etc.
If he wasn’t going back to Toronto, the Clips was the best thing for the NBA (by that I mean keeping a competitive balance. The NBA themselves probably wanted him on the Lakers). They payed a motza for PG13, 4 unprotected 1st round picks, 1 protected 1st, 2 pick swaps, Gallinari and SGA. They’ve put all their chips on the middle of the table. The result is Kawhi and PG, still kept the core of their squad. Lou, Trez, P-Bev. It’s a good starting 5 and they will have a bench. I’m really liking what next season will be, especially in the west!
That’s so rad.
Really looking forward to next season
The West contenders:
Lakers
Clippers
Jazz
Nuggets
Blazers
Rockets
Pelicans will be a good watch too and could sneak a playoff spot. OKC are blowing it up, the owner wants to get out of the luxury tax. Do they deal Russ, or is his contract too immovable? I don’t see a market for him, or any team with a need for a ball dominant PG who can’t shoot…
Still have $4.8m mid level to sign a free agent before we are on to vet mins
Probably try and retain JaMychal Green with this
Lakers did the right thing signing Green and bringing back Magee. Fill out the rest of their roster.
OKC fans i know are devastated by this.
Kawhi and the Clippers played that perfectly.
Not only did Kawhi speaking to the Lakers force them to withhold salary ca$h and miss out on free agents, not only did they weaken the cross town town rival along the way, but they probably got some idea of the style of basketball that the Lakers are going to play.
Incredibly tactical way of ensuring the Clippers could maximise their chances in the coming year.
They Clippers gave up a lot of their future in the PG13 trade but they had to do that to get Kawhi. Without either of them, they are still a 7th or 8th seed team in the West.
I’ll lock in “give it to LBJ and everyone else ■■■■ off” thanks Eddie.
I agree with you. His procrastination definitely took some desirable Free Agents off the table for the Lakers whilst they waited on him to decide.
I’m pretty sure Kawhi played the Lakers. If they had a wiff that PG13 wanted to get back at LA, the Lakers would have tried to court him to join Lebron and the Brow.
Not sure how given they had no assets to trade, but surely they would have tried to block it somehow.
The cupboard was literally bare.
Even if we wanted to there is nothing we could’ve given up for PG13 since we traded every piece we had for AD.
Signing Green and McGee is great business (good luck scoring in the paint over AD & Javale) and they will now rock with LeBron at the point unless they can convince someone like Darren Collison out of retirement.
The smart option was to probably always spread the cash around and pick up good role players so I am not that disappointed we missed out on Kawhi.
People already mumbling that PG13 to the Clippers will be a disaster waiting to happen as he apparently used to date Doc Rivers daughter and cheated on her with a stripper on a night out and knocked her up.
Interesting development.
Great bigs
Worst smalls in the league
Lakers look like a 45-50 win outfit
I love love love this
Twice in a year Lakers have been shown how amateurish they are in the front office (first pelicans now Leonard)
Delicious
Jerry West the goat.
I really don’t see how we have been “amateurish” of late to be honest.
I’ll give you the past 5-6 season prior to this one but we have done pretty well of late IMO but each to their own.
Sad some people get more pleasure out of what they perceive is other teams shortcomings/flaws rather than enjoying their own team.
its the NBA everyone follow superstars now.
highly amusing lakers believe the lakers name gets them waht they want.
Well the Pelicans got them to show their trade hand and showed the young roster how much they wanted them. Now Leonard held back the decision so free agents would sign with other teams.
I am just happy that GM Lebron doesn’t get what he wants.
I despise what he has done to the league, with most of it outright tampering.
But it’s all been ticked off by Silver, so I guess nothing to see here. Would of been interesting if Stern was still in charge.
