Next Generation Academies

If he has only been invited to the State combine, that means he hasn’t reached the minimum number of invites required for the National combined.

I think off memory you need 5 teams to nominate you for a national invite, someone else might be able to clarify the exact number or if it varies

Pretty sure Blake is playing VFL this week. Haven’t looked into it yet to confirm but that’s what his mum told my missus last week.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes as he now has a few games under his belt after injury, more confident in his body and better match fitness.

Wouldn’t expect too much at VFL level (will take a while) but he will definitely finish Talent League very strongly.

Draft wise my guess would be somewhere early 40s

He’s actually going to play for Calder for rest of the year.

Yep ur right.

Do we know anything about Bewick’s injury? Is he out for a couple or ok?

So Blake’s Mum < McPhee’s Dad?

The last I heard was it is a bad corky so you would think he is fine. Calder team will be released today.

The Fox footy draft writer Ben Waterworth thinks Justice is a forward :man_facepalming:

He no doubt watched the championships but doesn’t watch Calder

Pretty average tbh. It is basic info.

A lot of the independent content creators know the draft pool better than those being paid in their respective media jobs.

I realised this a couple of years ago when I really dug into the draft and watched heaps of games etc, that it’s basically a few guys know what they’re talking about (usually independent), then group think occurs with a lot of the so called experts that clearly watch next to no games and just pretend to know what’s going on by copying others homework.

Spot on. Groupthink is a thing.

I saw a draft journo at a u18 game this year. He barely watched any of it. All game was just talking and joking with his mate.

That’s why everyone that shares here and especially some of the main guys that really contribute to the NGA and junior leagues scene are super appreciated by Blitzers. We’re very lucky to have you all constantly sharing and giving insights cc: @noobermensch @Begbie @THE_DON1 and probably others ive missed!

I understand the criticism of groupthink, but I think you can take rejecting others opinions too far. I regularly find that the people I chat draft with will point out something that a player does that I hadn’t noticed. Perhaps that’s just a me thing, but I think my understanding of prospects would be poorer and develop slower if I didn’t have those interactions.

I do think its important not to just become someone who parrots other people’s opinions of course, but there’s a balance to be struck there.

Yeah that’s a good point too mate

Agree 100%.

And similarly, the journos you know do watch (like Emma Quayle did) were also really appreciated.

How many games do Calder have left? I’m hoping Justice, who has stayed fairly much under the radar due to his delayed start to the year, can stay that way for a few more weeks.

I mean he has played forward and played that role at champs and is also likely to play that role and maybe wing at the next level. My hope if we took him is that he goes play some midfield time at VFL level but can definitely see the club playing him forward/wing.

He is a midfielder.
Just because he played forward at champs when he was underdone doesn’t meant he’s not a midfielder.

Calder sees him às a mid too. And plays him there.
