No Women's Team for Essendon in 2017

Bulldogs and Melbourne are just doing it to boost membership.
So should we

So should we

There’s more to it.

As some have alluded it is a round robin, nab cup like game. And only 8 will make the final cut.

Your being too simplistic… Make no mistake this is about clubs seizing the opportunity to maximise an opportunity to attract new female supporters to their club and broaden their supporter base by tapping into latent female supporters and converting them to members. The actual competition is almost beside the point.

This whole thing is a great opportunity to grow supporter bases. That’s why Essendon are missing out. It’s a shame.

Today we see stories about potential new blockbusters between Rich and Coll on Aust Day. A new blockbuster in new markets on public holidays. That is exactly what we’re missing out on. Essendon not front and square in the new battle for female fans of Australian Rules.

That we’re not involved goes against the grain of what Essendon would ideally want to be driving. Massive opportunity missed.

we do have a women's team, but they seem to only come out to play on anzac day and in finals

This is a poor comment.

Yeah. Get back in the kitchen Robbo.

You’re throwing the word potential too much. I’m not agreeing with the club, however I don’t feel that from a supporter base perspective this is going to have a large effect on Essendon.

The element where the AFL is making it up on the go will do us no help, plus with the whole AFL commission element I think there are some bigger things at play. Just my thoughts though.

We have been on the forefront of many elements in growing our fan base from getting the Asian(Indian) community involved to the rise of the Purpose(LGBT) Bombers. This will happen in time once there is more clarity and it will not effect our "supporter’ base.

Eventually we will have a team. I think the timing isn’t right which is why we have backed out.

And before you say we’re not being on the forefront. Hawthorn have backed out as well focusing on grass roots and development. Same as us.

All because we decided to push it back one year?

No but in the ideal world we would be the leaders, not followers.

But we were leaders, as HM sarcastically pointed out earlier in the thread “We were one of the first clubs and loudest clubs to express interest in fielding a women’s team”. If we have put it of due to financial reasons that doesn’t make us “followers” if we join in the future.

We are still trying to mop up the Dank mess, we will get a team eventually just right now it wouldn’t be fair for the club or the potential Essendon female team/players.

Agree but whichever way you look at it the saga has caused us to take a different path to the one we would've ideally taken and that's all I'm saying....

I reckon it will go off… The spoils will go to the founding clubs.

Is this an ever decision or for the time being decision ? Having not read much about it, likely due to lack or interest , but could it be a financial decision for the moment ?

You think the AFL does anything out of the goodness of its heart?

Outrageous. Can’t believe that someone would dare post a joke on the internet.

But it’s not a ‘joke on the internet’.
It is comparing poor performance of our players to female players. The old ‘cry like a girl’ ‘joke’.
But I’m sure you’re not a purse-carrying nancy boy, so it’s ok.

Fact: male footballers are better than female footballers

True, but with $$$ the product can’t exist. And if it can’t exist it obviously can’t be successful

Of course not.
I’m not talking about the AFL, though.

I wonder if those who think women’s footy is shiit, go and watch their kids play - because kids are really terrible at footy. They can hardly kick the thing, ■■■■■■ losers.

It depends what the product is.
I agree it can’t exist in the format of the men’s league - at least for now. There are other ways to enjoy sports though, that don’t rely on multi-channel contracts, OB vans, billions of dollars in betting, $10 hotdogs and self-important buffons wanking each other off on TV about how good they farkin once were.
