A $1 mil fine could well kill Cronulla. That's an extraordinary fine for one of the NRL's poorest clubs. It makes ours look small and reasonable given our size and strength compared to Cronulla. An obscenity.

Coach Shane Flanagan a 12 month suspension, can be reduced to 9 months if he shows that he undertaken training to improve governance/management skills or something.

How dare the NRL afford the club and coach a right of reply, plus an appeal process if required. That sounds too fair.

Why does ability to pay come into sanctions ? Melbourne didn't get kicked out of the finals (obviously wouldn't affect them), they got fined and then a grant from the league that was bigger than the fine ...The Sanctions should fit the crime and in this case there is no relativity or guilt or proof attached to either sanction.
Why is the coach the head rather than the CEO when handing suspensions ???

Much lighter penalties than us. The NRL body handled this much better than the AFL.
I like how they outlined if there was further evidence they’d get harsher/lesser penalties.
The AFL has announced that Shane Flanagan will not be allowed to attend the Essendon Xmas party.
The real question here is will the Cronulla coach be allowed to attend the Cronulla Christmas Party? I mean, if he did that would seriously undermine the penalties handed down...

Unlike their AFL counterparts it appears that the NRL did not want to throw one of their clubs under a bus.
So we got double the monetary fine, similar suspension to our coach, but on top of that we lost draft picks, plus got booted from the AFL finals series? Anyone who tells me we got off lightly is kidding themselves.
How stupid are the NRL though? Allowing the investigation to take its course and doing absolutely nothing to pervert the course of natural and reasonable justice.
They didn’t even bother to interfere and try to have themselves involved in the outcome.
Ridiculous.
Waits for Sydney Wilson to complain this isn’t as thorough and punishing as in the NRL.
