Official EFC v Dockers Review thread

The top 10 from the game

Lyon’s presser comments-

“at the end of the day it’s won and lost in the midfield and I thought we were clearly on top there. Banfield did an excellent job on Merrett and limited his influence”

Clearly from the above we were beaten in midfield … no Zerrett or BJ there. Hep also running at very low efficiency.

“Hamling and Pearce did well on Bombers talls and then then our kickers really came into came from half back to set us up”

And those kickers in Ryan, Wilson and Blakely got so much of the footy. Marks marks marks.

It would be very unwise to think the margin indicates we weren’t too bad tonight.
We kicked about 6 or 7 goals against the run of play. We should have been 20 to 30 pts down at half time on the play, and the second half probably about another 20 to 30. We kicked straight and kicked a lot of opportunist goals, and survived a few Matera and Ballantyne stuff ups that could have blown it out by another 3 or 4.

People have got to stop counting Hurley’s possessions and concluding he has had a good game. There are a lot of cheapies there. And the Rhys/Heath Shaw special of kicking it to yourself on kickouts should not be counted as a possession.
It’s about as meaningful as counting the no. of kicks each player has in a game of soccer.

but ■■■■ it i’m absolutely appalled at this performance and i can’t wait for the same old cliches in the media for the next week when we scrape past a ■■■■■ dogs.

Flew in to Perth from South Africa at lunch time to see this.

Could one of my teams please win when I’m there! Just once :slightly_frowning_face:

Were you escaping the cricket?
How did young Lav go in the 2s today? I saw he played the last half, but no details otherwise.
Edit = that might not be right. I think a subsequent post said it was Boyse who came on for the 2nd half, not young Lav.

Exactly. And there’s no plan B. It seems we are just going to keep doing the same thing until we are the best in the comp. ZZZZzzzzzzz we will be waiting a long time

Yes saw 3 tests over there.

Young Lav didn’t play today I don’t think. I could be wrong, and we’ve been testing back and forward, I hope he’d tell me if he did.

Just got home from the game. I don’t know why I always go to a game in WA positive just to be served the same old ■■■■ on a platter. Even took the kids to the training session yesterday…

Heartbreaking for my 11 year old who has been to seven games over here and never seen us win.
Not ■■■■■■■ once.

yep. See my edit. Original post was that he came on, but then someone said it was Boyse.

That’s farked. I hope he gets a win b4 it’s too late

Agreed it’s heartbreaking and can’t be doing much for getting the next generation to support EFC

Did you see post #1 in this thread?

Maybe us WA supporters need to make a combined pitch to the club that what they have served up here for the best part of two decades now is just not farking good enough.

By ANY standard.

The difference in forward pressure was most evident in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Freo were generating multiple attempts on goal due to Essendon struggling to clear it’s defence and when an opportunity for an offensive push presented, it was repelled consistently and usually quite easily. It’s difficult to finger any one or two players for it. There just appeared to be a lack of intensity across the ground. You just didn’t see nearly enough of the hard run n spread that would be expected in order to provide options upfield. Smith is a star, Bellchambers toiled hard, Green did his best and Saad was busy but there just wasn’t the effort from enough of the others to have turned this game into more of a contest.

This was one of those benchmark games that winning would indicate a significant improvement in Essendon’s prospects for the season ahead. Losing in the fashion they did indicates that, for the time being at least, that not much has changed.
