Official EFC v Dockers Review thread

Tipped it in FLR. All too predictable Essington…

It will be like being savaged by a dead sheep.

Blitz could have written the same article.

Came here for the WOB review

Kthnx

Lol. You must have missed the fact that I was copping it all last week because I wasn’t happy with the way we played.

It’s very easy to go all guns blazing after we lose.

Move on

Well we don’t actually travel again until round 10 - we will need to build quite a few wins in this time.

Doggies, Port, Collingwood, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Carlton & Geelong. Realistically, we should be aiming to win 5-6 of those games. But we do need to pull the finger out and bring the intensity for all of them.

Prize for most succinct post.

Also wins prize for least insightful ; - )

It was good see zerret get a preseason game under his belt, he needed it.

As others have said they out worked us, plain and simple.

Considering the hiding we got im the hit outs we did alright to go close to splitting the stoppages.

Our key forwards need to work together better to set blocks especially when being closely marked. They seemed to work too much as individuals tonight.

They were able to get outside on the switch far far too easily. We weren’t able to do the same to them and that, fundamentally, was the difference. They could keep it tight and slow us down but we didn’t consistently do it to them.

Brown positively embarrassed himself in a few one on ones and I felt our defence missed the real hard edge that Ambrose brings. I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing in zerk next week though given its the dogs it may not be the game.

Hurls is padding his stats ATM with a lot of round the back work. It actually slows us down at times. The defenders need to be bold enough to take the game on themselves and hurls needs to look to spread rather than get the easy receive.

Dea was solid though unspectacular. He doesn’t provide the bounce that Gleeson does but we don’t really have another option ATM.

I’m glad we didn’t get blown away but equally I’m frustrated that we couldn’t match their work rate.

There are plenty hanging woosh out in here but I’m not convinced that was a game where he could influence. It really came down to work rate for mine. There were periods in the game where we matched it and there were periods where we didn’t. I don’t think that jd in against Sandi or putting hooker back would have helped.

Reset, go again.

Took a tower of giraffes over to play a coalition of cheetahs. Far too tall defensively. We looked slow and stagnant tonight.

Pretty comfortable with the comprehension - cheers!

I’m not surprised at the negativity here. But I’m not as down on this performance as many of you. We’ve gotten harder and more competitive with the inclusion of Dev Smith and Saad, we just need a bit more composure under pressure. I’m completely sold on Josh Begley even though he’s not quite there yet. Joey let us down and has to follow up with second and third efforts. Brown had a pretty bad game even though he tried his heart out. And Zerrett was as bad as we’ll ever see him.

This is a very new team - most of the guys have not played together for more than a few games. We’ll improve as the year goes on. I suppose this opinion makes me a “happy clapper” but I don’t think throwing names like that are helpful. Freo grow an extra leg at home and at their best tonight were very good but we failed to hurt them enough when they had their ordinary patches. Throw LAV, Gleeson and Fanta into that mix and we can be a top four team.

Change down, man. Find your neutral space. You gotta rush. It’ll pass. Be seated.

I want all the optimists to self report.
I can’t be farked looking up the match preview thread to see who they all are.
In cricket terms, are you Steve Smith, or are you Faf (“everyone does it”) or de Villiers (“we are not cheats”) or …(insert name of any random Indian player of recent times)?
PS Apologies for off topic editorial.

There is probably 2 games there where we are better than a 50/50 chance but as I said in the lid on thread, ■■■■ teams believe they can beat us no matter the formline.

Seems to me that the coaches decide we will play with a specific structure, set up and style, regardless of the opposition.
So we go in with what we think is our best 22, rather than the best 22 for the style of play of the opposition or the conditions.
Then during the game when we can’t break through with the team we have selected, we just leave everything as is, because this should work. So we sit twiddling our thumbs waiting for the miracle to happen.
Not quite sure why when nothing has changed over the past year or so we resigned the coach. Not sure why you sign a coach for x years then resign them after x-1 rather than waiting for x. At this rate Worsefold will get a contract renewal this time next year, despite just being signed for two years.
Anyway we were out coached, outplayed, we have some very ordinary inconsistent players who need to have a good hard look at themselves. We also have a very ordinary coaching panel.
I don’t expect any consistency over the next few years.

Agree. So damn predictable isn’t it? Interstate game vs a team you should beat and less than half the side turns up. We’ve been mentally soft for over a decade and 2018 looks like more of the same.

Playing in Vic must mask our deficiencies coz we look slow, can’t hit targets by foot and have no forward line cohesion when we play interstate. Must have the worst interstate record in the comp over last decade.

Amazed we got within 16 points. It felt like a 7 goal loss. Worst games for past 2 years from Daniher and Walla - they’ll bounce back.

Any danger Woosh can take a risk mid game and make some moves? Hooker is a backman, Stringer is a forward.

Too many B graders out there tonight which is a worry as we don’t have that many injuries.

Game vs Dogs next week is massive. Hopefully Raz is fit.

Put a tiny bit of pressure on an efc player, and you’ve won the contest. Sick of it.
