And with supposedly better players this time
And who were they?
Even if you can name two passable examples, it doesnât compensate for a fundamental lack of pressure/ forward entry/pressure around the contestâŚ
Sorry, but jeez Iâm â â â â â â off with how easy we are to beat. We win games on the back of flashy football. We lose when we have to work for it.
Ever single time I start to feel like this club has turned a corner and put performances like tonight behind us, we serve it up again.
Heart breaking stuff
I would have selected Bagman & J Merrett/Long tonight instead of Hearts & Brown. Really struggled to move the ball defensively out of their half of the ground. Our smalls were poor as well, with the exception of Smith, who played a cracking game.
Cant handle it anymore
TBH, tonightâs performance wasnât as horrible as most are saying.
It definitely wasnât a good performance. There is plenty of things that need to be worked on. But that was the same last week. Getting hysterical over a 20 point loss to Fremantle in Perth, is not a disaster.
Alot of players were off tonight, which is normal for us interstate. But a lot of players were off last week. Hopefully we quickly wear off the preseason rust and win the best 6 matches.
People need to get a taste of reality.
True but itâs these type of loses against sides like Freo that will cost us a shot at being top 4.
Actually very interesting and explains a bit (at least in my view).
Kept wondering why we havenât found a way to get through it all when the opposition puts an extra player back. Woosha put it best.
His instruction is to slow the ball down, allow the forwards time to get into position. Instead we continue to want to move the ball so quickly that when it gets into our forward 50, our forwards are out of position and their backs are ready and waiting for the ball to come in.
Kind of makes sense to me and itâs probably something that will come with experience (though Iâd expect some of our mature players would be leading this on the field which is disappointing).
and what is the reality ?
the funny thing is, when you look at something in isolation it rarely ever looks to bad. but when you look at isolated events, and see the same thing happen over and over again then itâs as simple as, itâs a one off.
itâs a pattern.
more and more people are now finally waking up to the patterns, and can predict it before games now.
thatâs our reality. people got hysterical over a loss to brisbane last year, thatâs our reality, and has been so for quite some time.
apply pressure and more often than not, this time will wilt under said pressure, and they arenât getting better at handling it.
thatâs our reality.
Ideas:
Joe is struggling, put him into the midfield to get him involved and get his confidence back up with a touch of the footy.
Walla is invisible. Put him at HBF to get hands on the footy and get some clean ball which we desperately needed amidst the scrappiness.
Brown getting smashed by Taberner who was just too big for him. We canât take a mark to save ourselves. Drop Hooker back and send Brown fwd, see if he can jag a goal or two.
Did Woosha try anything?
Ross Lyon - on the phone sending out messages
Worsfold - deer in the headlights look
Winning interstate is a bonus, as long as you win all your matches at home.
People need to realise that Fremantle are the equivilant of a top 4 team when they are at home. When they are away they are a wooden spoon team. They are completely different ends of the spectrum. Plus they have a handy player in Fyfe that had a blinder.
There wasnât much good about this game. Beaten for the far majority of it, in all parts of the ground, and mostly just keeping in touch through messy opportunistic goals.
Freo applied some great pressure but we let inferred pressure get to us more, really sloppy disposal, hacking the ball forward when we needed support and spread from the contest.
Joe was abysmal. Had a shocker. Nothing worse than when heâs down and he throws the head forward and arms out looking for free but instead just taking himself completely out of the contest.
Devon Smith was fantastic. Just determined and unrelenting for the entire game.
And watch GC beat them next week at Optus Staduim.
We have worst travling record in the league you can almost pencil in a loss when Essendon travel intertstate regardless who they are playing.
Good teams win matches on the road
The common theme in these games is we lose the midfield battle (surprise surprise) and from there itâs pushing â â â â up hill.
Itâs getting close to 20 years since we had a top quality midfield. Freo belted us around the ground, the only thing that kept the scoreboard reasonable was our incredible efficiency inside F50. Imagine if we had a midfield that could actually control games of footy against another formidable midfield.
what kind of loser mentality is âwinning interstate is a bonusâ. good teams win anytime, anywhere.
thatâs what over a decade of sh*te does, ladies and gentlemen.
Get a grip it round 2
We allowed him to get back to form.
You didnât watch the international rules?
