There is something rotten at this club. We have too many guys who are happy just being an AFL football, and there is a soft underbelly that shows no sign of abating.
We need a harder edge, and to be ruthless. And more than just onfield. List management in particular. I donât like to single one bloke out especially that he didnât play tonight, but Iâm gonna. Which other club would keep Myers for so long? And whats more, we promote him to the leadership group.
We as a supporter base continue to blow smoke up the backsides of these guys at the slightest hint of ability. Tippa. Daniher. And it goes to their heads it seems.
And mentally we are soft. We had a CEO who had to apologise for saying that it was ânot good enoughâ after we lost at home to the eventual wooden spooners.
I have little confidence that we are anything but a decent side when the game is played on our terms, but at the slightest hint of having to dig deep we far too often go to water.
Freo at home you know we are going to have to grind it out. But thats not the way we want to play, and it continues to hurt us. A lot to take away from a round 2 loss I grant you but Iâve seen how this movie ends before
Bottom line is we are a middle of the road team. Not good enough. Cannot possibly finish higher than 7th, most likely 8th and out round 1 of the finals.
Love Tippa but someone needed to tell him there was a game of footy on out there tonight.
Was like he was going for a Sunday arvo stroll through the park even though itâs Saturday night.
Stringer looked lost out there also.
I think it depends. But all night it was âhacked kick forward to 1 on 3â. Hooker provided contests and caused goals in that situation and kept us in the game. Which is the point of the structure.
But you expect that at some stage weâd get some quality use forward.
It never came. And so the key forwards didnât kick the goals.
Hooker was mostly decent. Stewart was ok. Joe had a shocker.
Joe plays even half decent we still might have won.
Simple loss. Coaching mistake playing that many talls, especially the way they were played. Slippery footy doesnât suit us and we paid the price. However we didnât have many strong candidates to come in and suit the climate. Would of looked better with Bags, Myers and Fantasia. In the end we didnât run hard enough and take advantage of their poor skill.
ditto the posts on the club facebook page about how
âthis will be a good lessonâ
âwe need to get more consistentâ
âplently of positives, just have to learn to be more consistentâ
âconsistency is the key, we just have to take that out of the game and learn from it, itâs a good lessonâ
âlesson, consistencyâ
Was a common pr spin on facebook at least last season, lets see how many articles or posts happen about it this week.
Hooker and Stewart were fine. But our midfield couldnât or wouldnât kick it to them on the full, we left them outnumbered and Daniher was useless. The idea of kicking to Hooker is he wonât be outmarked. He mostly wasnât. But he also canât mark it when itâs away, and he canât beat a nimble guy when itâs at his feet. We needed a crumber. Fantasia is out, Walls did rubbish, and Begley was hit and miss. If it was going to be kicked to Hookers feet Woodgate needed someone to feed off Hookers crumbs and to often there was only a Freo player.
