That Japanese Government has urged the public to refrain from gathering for marathon and race walk events in Sapporo, as well a cycling and triathlon events in Tokyo. Authorities will move on people if deemed necessary.
Tokyo in July/August is like Brisbane in February on steroids, in terms of heat and humidity.
Feel for the athletes.
I know it’s the ‘summer’ games, but feel Tokyo would’ve been better off hosting these games in late September/early October when the weather is usually best in Japan - typhoons aside!
It’s crazy. I used to play footy there over this period on days with 80%+ humidity. It’s hard to walk along the street, let alone compete in professional sport.
Is there a way to watch the road race without cutting away to other events? Or because it is on the main channel, the app covers the same vision complete with cutaways?
It’s great to see some people able to watch the road race, because watching the Japan v Australia hockey game this morning was quite sad. Getting used to seeing sport played behind closed doors in an empty stadium, but the Olympics is supposed to be a celebration for the host city and it’s a crying shame the people of Tokyo can’t enjoy it due to COVID.
