Overrated Movies

I have to disagree on that one (though can see where you’re coming from!)

There was a scene (those who have seen it know which one) that made me gasp. It seems rare these days to be taken by surprise by scenes in movies.

Have to agree with the poster that mentioned Lala Land. I love musicals etc and just did not like that one.

I love it.

Mainly because of Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman.

Side note - I met Emma Thompson when I was travelling. She was lovely and friendly (invited me to the set of her movie). So any movie with her gets a biased like from me!

All examples of being way overrated

That shows a degree of sense…and sensibility.

‘The Tax Collector’

Not overrated, simply hot garbage.

The best thing about the film is Shia Labeouf, he carries the film - until they kill him off (not a spoiler, as the whole film is killed off)

Love Actually is Naff, but some Irish folk have produced a funnier version of the most famous scene:

Did you take up the offer?

Nothing worse than these over analytical reviews on movies where everyone knows its just a fun, turn brain off movie.

Like cmon, Grown Ups, Its Adam Sandler, with Rob Schneider, Kevin James and Chris Rock. I know this movie is not going to be in Academy Award contention with whatever “never go full retard” feel good piece or Lonely woman falls in love with a fish movie of that year. Just tell me if I will get some cheap some laughs and I can kill a couple of hours.

Exactly. One movie I thought would be utter tripe was Deuce Bigalow Male Gigalow. Was actually quite funny.

We couldn’t unfortunately. We were leaving that day.

It was in Venice in our hotel lobby (she was waiting for her daughter to arrive).

Would have loved to though - it wasn’t a blockbuster film or anything “Effie Gray”. Had Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters in it. Would have been amazing to meet them as well.

Absolutely. Would be a fun party with those 3. They’re all characters. Imagine the stories.
Haven’t heard of the movie. Those low budget (I’m assuming) non Hollywoods are either hidden gems or complete rubbish.

l don’t mind some cheap laughs either, but Grown Ups is utter rubbish.

But you know what to expect is the point. I just used it as an example. You dont need a Leigh Paatch type writing 1000 word critical review as to why its not an Oscar contender.

Funnier than Love Actually?

Transcripts of The Hague war crimes tribunal are funnier than Love Actually.

Nobody is more out of touch with the general population than movie critics. Perhaps food citics. Or any critic of something that is in fact incredibly trivial. Movies are entertainment first and foremost.

Most deluded people on the Planet.

Never an artistic bone between them, no creativity or ability, yet they somehow think they are in a position to judge artistic/creative peoples work.
I’ve always thought it stems from being envious and/or full of spite because they are bereft of any talent that way.

In all these years, I’ve never known or heard of one that ever did anything creative themselves, … ever.

Pretty much wankers one and all.

I used to love watching At the Movies with Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton.

Cant say I agreed with every review they did but their passion was obvious and their different personalities always made for entertaining viewing.

As my good, now sadly departed mate used to call them…

Just find hating on critics of any type a strange concept.

Its like people who complain about Andrew Bolt. Just don’t read their material.

Grown Ups is a masterpiece compared to Jack & Jill.

…I saw both in the cinema :joy:
