Overrated/Underrated Sitcoms and the science of comedy

oh yeah there’s exceptions. 30 rock loved a visual gag

I recall watching them do about 30(?) versions of Stairway to Heaven (on Rage?) at some point and I think the tedium killed them for me.

Community had plenty of visual gags

Are you thinking of Denton’s Money or the Gun?
They finished each show with a different artist covering Stairway (including famously Rolf Harris).
DAAS did one with Barry Crocker.

The Jack Black episode of community is one of the most quotable episodes of a show ever.

Yeah, possibly. I’m sure it was something , some sort of marathon , on Rage and a mate wanted it on. I just got drunk.

I have the CD somewhere, to my shame.

Never saw them. I suppose I should have said “worst of those I have seen”.

Physical media goes in the underrated column

What was the name of that British hack, who had a show over here, and it got cancelled within a week or two of it’s release??

Great show, good call!

Yeah, dispense with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and kangaroos, overseas actors without Ocker accents, which they think will sell better OS.
AND Fink, which has a cult following OS,
as with Bluey, Cecilia and Luke are fine actors, don’t need to be Ocker to have a niche audience OS, including in NESP countries . And quality scripts.

You were spot on , Wim. ABC / Rage did a compilation of MoTG performances. In my memory, it became a “I’m bored by DAAS” moment, lol. Though I do now have a fuzzy memory of Harris and his wobble board version.

Didn’t Leonard Teal do a spoken one?

We did this chat in a thread years back, and for me it hasn’t dated. I guess if you don’t know who Thatcher is, but that didn’t matter to me at the time anyway. Hippies, punks, socialists, share houses, absurdity, all that still works fine for me.

Not a comedy, but did you watch the tourist on Stan?

Funded mainly by the BBC I think, whilst the main character was an english actor plenty of the others were australian.

Well produced show, made it to #1 on some UK chart.

Set in South Australia the scenery and acting is stunning.

Mind you if they do a second series of deadloch its probably set in Darwin and well it just wouldnt be accurate if the accents werent Ocker :face_holding_back_tears::rofl:

He did, and I think it’s quite good.

You can’t possibly be calling Ben Elton a hack…

Clearly it’s not just me who thinks it.

No unfortunately. I’ll take your word for it.
There has been some Brit comedy on the ABC, a top Kiwi comedy actor speaking with a strong NZ accent.
Kiwis piggybacking on Neighbours accents being OK in England.
